BP 511 vs BP 512
Which gives more power for 10D ?

Canon CAPS400 Compact Power Adapter and Dual Battery Charger
"This compact charger and AC adapter can charge two BP-511 battery packs simultaneously at a rate of 90 minutes each. Also, when used with the DC-Coupler DR-400, it allows the D60 or D30 to use power directly from an AC power source."

Any knows the price ? And if there are 3rd part brands that can dual charge at the same or faster rate ?

isn't the 512 a different shape and meant for canon camcorders?

512 is the same as 511, except that it has a flat top instead of a curved top. This makes it look nicer when mounted on a video cam.

To know about power, check the capacity of the battery. The 511 is 1100mAh. The 3rd party ones from EastGear is 1500mAh, which means that it will last 1500/1100 = 1.36 times longer than the original, at a far lower price.

Another option might be buy the battery ( don't know the model ) for the new Minolta A1. Its identical (same shape, size and voltage) to the 511 except that its rated at 1900mAH (or was it 1700mAH ).

Eastgear also carries a dual battery charger ($99) that can charge many many different types of batteries. Looks good. Such chargers are better value because they can charge batteries for different camera models and for different brands.

Note that I am not affiliated with EastGear in any way. I've just read their posts and visited their website and so I know what they are selling.

Canon's batteries are expensive for a reason, i don't think all Li-Ion batts are created equal.

Also, i believe if a 3rd party batt shorts your camera, or leaks, or in some way damages your camera, it may void your warranty.

i also use 3rd parties bcoz they are so cheap, but raised this point just for general awareness.

i think the reason why canon batts are more expensive is the same reason why their lenses are more expensive than similar spec-ed 3rd party lenses. Brand name.

Hi

bear in mind that if you use or plan to use the optional BG-ED3 battery grip, then those BP 512s won't fit into the grip.........

personally i prefer the 511s..wat's wrong with them? :P

Agreed about the warranty. I also use 3rd batteries (Eastgear). Just ensure not to purchase a 3rd party battery with voltage > then the original (7.4).

voltage of batteries is dependent on chemical composition of the battery itself, not the brand or labelling. the eastgear one is labelled as 7.2V while the canon one at 7.4V, but both will have similar voltage across the discharge cycle (full charge at around 8.3V and full discharge at around 6~V) as both are Li-Ion batts.
