haha... sigh.. i already struggling wif my tripod.. geee...

The IS is something that is very useful on the 70-200. Some people get headache but i find it very useful as it helps with my composition. When i want to shoot very tight, the optical IS helps me compose the picture so that i can get as tight as i want without accidently composing wrongly.

Also it makes photography easier even in bright condition. I know that as long as my camera is at 1/125 there is almost no way i can take a blurry photo (unless the subject is moving very very fast). I can be a bit more sloppy in taking pictures!!

Finally, with a TC, the IS lens becomes even more useful!!

Personally if you are not getting IS lens or the 70-200/4, get the sigma instead. There is a new version coming up with some macro feature (aka closer focusing distance). The sigma is a good deal because feature wise, it has everything (except white paint and a red stripe). Compared to buying a 70-200/4L with a tripod foot, the sigma is almost the same price!

Warrau....more IS users than non-IS? Non-IS for me cuz I can't justify the IS version due to low utilisation of this focal range for my style of shooting.

I want to buy 70-200 4L too but I afraid Canon will suddently have 70-200 4L IS

Mine is IS when I turn IS on
non-IS when I turn IS off.
f/4 when I stop it down :)

3 in 1? :) haha

Whahaha! That's a good one! :bsmilie:

I had the F/4L .. but sold it and right now I am using the 2.8 Non IS .. its about twice F/4L weight :) .. better indoor handle.. sharpness and bokeh are superb ..

Go for 70-200 F/4 if you can use flash for indoor event most of the time (E.g. shopping center stage show)...;)

Haha, But you cannot shrink it!:sticktong

Humm...why not get a 135mm F2L and a 1.4X TC? I think the overall pics will be better. The rest of the zoom use legs if possible.

another way is to replace the 1.4TC with a 85mmf1.8 to cover the shorter end.
IMO, the 135mmf2L is so sharp that if you need 200mm, just crop the photo, cause you wont loose details.

The weight of the f/2.8 isn't bad at all.
I'm sure you could shoot with it for the whole day - just get the IS version so when you DO get a little shakey, it's not so bad.

The weight isn't an issue. and this is coming from skinny, weak me!
but I'll admit that the day after.... pain, but it's pleasant pain :P

I think it's worth it.

for the POOL >> Using a 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM

heavy but worth it.

Just get the IS and move on.... You'll never regret it. Excellent lens. Sharp. 2.8 and IS versatile (Up to 4 stop total advantage over the f4 version). Excellent for those low light and dimly lit churches. I used it mainly at 200mm and handshake is a problem for me. The IS works like magic. I have less blur photos. Get the 2.8 IS.
