Which 50mm 1.4 - Nikkor AF-S 1.4G or Sigma EX DG HSM?

Hi i would rank them as

1)Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG
2)nikon 50mm F1.4G
3)nikon 50mm F1.4D

bokeh of the sigma is exceptional.

yes, sigma indeed has a creamier bokeh. i tried it out last night and compared with a 50mm 1.4 AF-D. in terms of sharpness, both lens can give you a good output. if bokeh is not much of an issue with you, the nikkor would be a good choice.

after trying out the 2 lens, i ended up getting the Nikkor 50mm 1.4 AF-D. I just thought that my savings could lead somewhere else.., for other lens of my liking.

for my point of view, i'm contended with the AF-D already :) the good thing also, the shop was kind enough to let me test 2 pieces before buying to compare sharpness, etc..

I've had the 50 f/1.8D and 50 f/1.4D Nikkors. Have tried the 50 f/1.4G but never tried the Sigma. From my experience I will rank them like this in order of IQ and bokeh:

1. 50 f/1.4G
2. 50 f/1.4D
3. 50 f/1.8D

But I still like my Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f.1,4 SL II best. The Sigma looks like very good competition with the Voigtlander but goes for twice as much as I've paid for the Voigtlander. . No back/front focusing issues too since I rely on my eyes instead of AF.

Bokeh-wise, the V lose out to Sigma.....the V's bokeh is not very attractive.

Hi all,

This thread is very useful to user who are deciding on their 50mm prime lens. I've just gotten the Sigma 50, F1.4 lens. I'm a new dslr user.

I tried it on few night potraits but facing sharpness problem. When my subject (distance is 2-3 ft away) and background are close, the image is out of focus even at F2 and below. How can I avoid the sharpness problem when taking night potrait?

Thanks for your help & advise~ :)
