if you are climbing Mt Kinabalu, you may want to have a lens that fulfill most distance. ;p

18250 is slightly slow in low light, but with its range and quality, its still worth getting for a full time walkabout lens.

:)

I was also thinking of getting an 18250 lens, but was warned that it's quite slow

I was thinking long term for nature photography, like if I were ever to climb Mt Kinabalu again I wouldn't want a huge lens with me.

thoughts?

How does that translate into sunset/sunrise or even dawn shots?

so it either tanron or sony???? i believe tamron should be cheaper... now hmm.....

optically should be the same~
build quality not sure though

tamron:
pro: 3 yrs warranty (local)
con: tamron distributor doesn't do repair here, so must send back to Japan? supposedly slower AF?

Sony:
pro: sony warranty (good support), supposedly faster AF
con: dust-prone rubber grip

i think i go for tamron 18-250 and use the saving for 50mm f1.8......... goood choice? or jus suck it and get sony 18-250mm plus 50mm f1.8 ???????

quite bother abt the tamron AF speed as review most say quite slow compare to sony... haiz.... dilemma....

You can always try manual focus? I like using manual focus on my telephotos.. AF usually takes too long. Only when I'm lazy, I'll use AF. My beercan seems to AF quite fast.
The AF speed for tamron and sony isn't that big if I'm not mistaken.. I recommend you go for optical quality...

i tin for IQ... both on par according to review.. no????

ahah yea tough choice~ go try both... ;p
resale value for the sony is quite high, you only lose like $75 or so (at the price i bought mine) if u decide to sell in a few years time? :bsmilie:
i wouldnt recommend manual focusing this lens, as there is some play and when turning the focus ring, it isnt "smooth" and you can feel some gears. It is disengaged but theres still some resistance. But its one solid lens, mine has a tight zoom ring and has no creep. :sweatsm:
