In fact, this is a very important point....

Let me relate an incident recently at Sipadan....

on a dive to a site to shoot pygmy SH....while diving on the way to the location.. I didnt shoot anything fearing that the lens might fog out...as it happen just a dive b4 and it happen quite offen when u shoot with macro lens attached...especially stack....also dont know whyy also..

so your conclusion..??? Dylan always have this problem.. anyone also have such experience

Adding on to the same trip, I forgot to bring silicon packs for my C-5060 and did all my dive without them.... no fogging at all.... Maybe Siaoon should verify in one of his trip.

fog? never had this problem. flood only :bsmilie: and i shoot like crazy on average 50-80 raw shots/dive. i put one standard pack of olympus silicon gel and have been using it for mths already.

im using 2500 now and it can easily last 3dives. but if places like manado sipadan, i change my batteries and transfer my images after every dive.

it doesnt..:dunno:

I believe its the rechargable batt....they generate too much heat....expecially if they are old...

To add...I am using Ikelite C5050 housing with sync cord....so no internal flash is used.

Try to use new or in good condition rechargable batt...

Damage recharge batt will cause leakage and can warm up your camera easily...

no wonder we see siaoon's pics but not yours.....all fogged up

no la, i dun have time to process... i only processed about 10% of my photos so far... he started processing since in lembeh, and i only started when back in si ngapore, and only spent one night so far... i can get on with that after my exams lor :)

but i did miss shooting a few nice stuff that turned up near to the end of the dive, cos already fogged up.. i continued shooting if it is not too bad la.

well, mine never fogged up ever since i bought it too. just on this lembeh trip. it didnt fog in bunaken. i was a bit surprised and kinda upset la, but nothing much that i can do leh. everyone's cameras fogged on my trip, maybe except cat64fish's. siaoon's had slight fogging sometimes, but not too affecting.

i was thinking partly due to the contrast of temperature as well between the waters and the camera? and also it was raining everyday, everything feels a little moist, including the bed... it was very humid, which may explain for the higher condensation rate, with higher concentration of water vapour in the casing.

my 2500mah batteries are brand new

room no aircon? i think its the wet air recently cos last time i went manado i never had any fogging at all.

my LCD is on all the time, i trigger flash using slave 1.

you dun get aircon for very cheap accommodation :p

i also use slave 1 ma, but thats not all that is using the battery and generating the heat. it was pretty humid la.. one good indication is the matchsticks.. though never touch water, became too moist to use.. we needed it for the mosquito coils..

hmmm. ... i dun really think it is faulty la... i do agree with the heat generating thingie but probably not on this..

*COUGH COUGH ..

suddenly realised we are going off topic.. londonray wanna know if he wanna sell his c5050! ;p

but hope the above info may serve some purpose la hor... we have a lot of c5050z users here, we have our gripes about it, but why arent we changing? because a lot of us havent really found a better prosumer camera. f810 is heavily rumoured as a better one, but so far, we have not seen quality uw pictures of it taken locally.

and your reason for wanting to sell is very important.

Agreed.

. I really hope my C-7070 can out-perform the C-5050. But only time can tell, and more diving trips for me.. I guess, even if Londenray want to sell his C-5050, he would have no problem getting a good re-sale value out from it.

ok, i re-read the thread.. basically, if you are not so into uw photography, or so you think for now, you are probably not looking at upgrading or not. you are just thinking to keep the camera and rent a housing when you need it.

nobody replied on whether they will rent the housing, because the answer is most probably no. all this while a lot of camera owners without housing has enquired on the subforum for housing to rent, but never been successful so far. reasons being risks of flooding and responsibility.

so now my question to you is, besides uw photography, would you be using your camera often? do you actually want to keep a digital camera? c5050 is good enough for point and shoot family shots and travelling, though not super compact.

what is your gripes about the camera, if you have any? what is the economic value of the camera to you, and the replacement cost if you want to buy a new camera? you probably bought it for around 1.2k when brand new, but the resale value now is about sgd500. is that ok for you? if you want to buy a new camera, can the resale value of sgd500 be enough or you need to top up?

do post more of your c7070 pics :) a lot of us are interested i think

londonray will have no problems with finding a buyer if he offers a reasonable price, whether the resale value is good or not depends on how he gauges it :)

5050 is a good camera for underwater shots,

but i feel its too slow for land.. focusing is too slow maybe i don't like to shoot those 1, 2 , 3 Cheeze shots..

i think the only advantage over 7070 is the f1.8 which i have never used before for underwater shots. land yes maybe.

i trying to convience my friend to get the f810 so i can test hahahaha :p

Yes yes, if you can post your experiences of how the 2 cameras differ, that wld be really useful and interesting! Does the 7mp sensor of the 7070 pick up noticeably more detail than the 5050?

Personally, I find that closing the housing in a damp humid environment tends to have fogging problems. Best to close the housing in an aircon room (cos more dry). Beivied, did you apply anti-fog on the inside of the housing port?

ya i did.. i do that without fail .. well, too bad, there was no aircon room for me to open my housing in :) it actually got worse as the days went by, as the drier air in the housing slowly gets replaced with the humid air in lembeh ..

so are u selling the C5050?

might be interested if the price is right

Hey guys... just bought a D70... feeling a bit broke now... dunno whether to sell away my C5050Z... been reading your forum and often see the C5050 being mentioned or used... Are the photos taken really great? Can understand that the F1.8 would come in very handy indeed... But unfortunately, I am just a leisure diver... so if I were to want to bring a camera down... I might just get the PT-015 or even borrow/rent it for the dive trip... Would that alone be sufficient? or you would need all the strobe lights and stuff to get "nice" pictures? Just some questions to evaluate whether or not to sell the camera... not advertisement to sell it. So pls dun PM or post about asking price etc... Would appreciate constructive comments though. THanks in advance... :)
