Hi guys, i'm considering buying a used Minolta digital camera. But a friend of mine just warned me today that it would be next to impossible to find anymore Minolta lenses or accessories at the stores - even old-stock ones. Is this true? Can anyone verify this? Please advise where and if i can purchase new lenses & accessories should you have the information. i will be very grateful to anyone who can help me out of this predicament. Thank you.

wait a little longer for sony to lanch their new system...by then. u will be eating grass if u BBB!haha

Well, if u're looking at lenses, I believe TCW does carry a few Minolta lenses. Alternatively, if u insist, die-die want the Minolta brand and willing to wait, I do make trips to Japan at least once or twice a year. Brand new as well as top condition 2nd hand Minolta stuff are still available in Japan at the smaller stores (yes, be awed. Japan does have a huge Minolta following).

If any of u guys require Minolta stuff on my next trip just tell me when I start a thread for Minolta MO when I go over.

wow. bro. you are so kind! looking forward for your MO. ^_^

Not true at all that KM stuff will suddenly vanish. Then again, I'm talking about 2nd hand KM branded equipment. Cos KM has stopped producing their photography equipment, so whatever equivalent that is fresh off the production line will be Sony branded, but we expect it to work just as well as the KM branded stuff. Judging from the service they provide at Sony store for KM photography equipment, there is some hope that there is some continuity.

Also, Sony pledges support for the A-Mount as well as there'll be 20 new lens line up expected.

Like what colin said, "Whatever rolls off the assembly line will be Sony branded." That's just about it. On a business sense, it doesn't pay to abandon the thousands and millions of KM users to start doing radically new cameras and accessories that are not backward compatible. It would be significantly cheaper to start rolling out 'new' stuff which are actually rebadged items since Sony bought over KM's imaging division. :)

U missed out the earlier one unfortunately. ;p

Hopefully my remaining annual leave allows me to go there again at the end of the year where there are lotsa consecutive holidays though.

Seems B&H in USA are still selling KOnica Minolta.

Prices for 2H KM stuff have gone up. Imagine 80-200 going for like 2K

80-200... That's a very Good lens. :o :D

Yes, I saw your post. I didn't have anything in mind then. I still don't have anything in mind now. ;p But it doesn't hurt to know that somebody is going down to get some KM accessories. Who knows what I'll think of getting in the future?

Realistically, I think my set up is about there. Don't see why I should add any more big time accessories unless I start to do exclusive macro work or shoot wildlife etc. Then I'll need things like ring flash or prime telephotos.
