Where to buy Canon EOS 400D?

I wanted to get from Oracle but he had no stock, so had to buy it from the shop coz I need to use it this weekend.

Yesterday I bought the 400D kit from Cathay Photo for $1470 incl gst... had to get the e-quote first [email@cathayphoto.com.sg] and show them my email. I think otherwise the price is much higher.

The salesman was nice and answered my questions about extension tubes and other stuff... forgot to ask him about slave flash though.

Anyway, I got the 50mm 1.8 lens also. At $123.90 incl GST. Very happy with my purchase, but not happy coz I had to make an extra trip to Harbourfront the same day to collect my 1gig card and lens workbook from Canon. Fortunately they were closed at 9pm.

A few days before, I went to MSColor and they quoted me much higher for both the kit and the 50mm lens.

due to a bad after-sales donkey years ago i will nvr ever be a customer. go in check check play play demo demo.. yes. but wont hand them my $$$.

Never buy from Cathay Marina or Penisular!! They are such a rip off. Was quoted SGD$800+ for a Tamrom 17-50 F2.8. DUhzz! Unless you are their regular. Stay of these sharks. Even some regulars are saying that their prices are getting absurd.

Hello there, sorry to hijack this thread for an enquiry. Does anyone wish to sell his Lens workbook and how much would you wanna to let go? Thanks...

Hi

anyway is the eros book a compulsory item? cos they never give me one or can i get one at canon?

Hi, me plan to buy 400D... wat other accessories do u all get?

Is it more worth it to get the body only & buy the lens separately?

Wat is the recommended lens to get for a beginner?
I plan to get the kit set (wif 18~55mmlens included) then buy extra the 55~200mm lens... is this a good idea?

Plan to get from MS photo (as recommend in the forum), they quote me $1420 (kit set).. but i didnt ask the lens.... worry will get rip off for other accessories i buy frm them.. is this over concern? (Cos last time experience in Sim lim, the retailer lower they main item cost, but marked up $ for other accessories...bad experience for me..)

depends on what you get.

Are you planning to do low light photography? the kit lens and 55-200 dies under that. It is important that at least one of your lenses can do low light photog, u never know...

What type of photography are you venturing into? I would recommend the EF-S 17-85mm f4-5.6 IS USM, should cost you ard 800-900, its a good lens with great image quality, but at f4, it is a little slow....

you could take a 75-300mm too along with that, its relatively more nifty in focal range than the 55-200.

What about Lords ?

Are you really a beginner? like What everyone here. Check the price first (pop into the shops and ask. Keep in your wallet $20 and put the ATM/Credit cards at home - so salesman can't pyscho you to buy on spot). Go with a good considerate buddy... MS color is ok... my friend bought 400D Kit last week at $1450.

I once asked on the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 EX DC Macro at Alan Photo = S$ 950. But I got it at S$880 at CP PP (depending which staff you deal with). It's not all about the shop but the person you deal with.

Tks xiaomiaowang... what is low light photography? sth like taking pic in low lighting conditions? in tt case, aperature need to bigger bigger size & more stable for prolong exposure??

Tchern, u mention abt Sigma 18-50 f2.8 lens... is it compatible to EOS400D body?
Am i right to say, the smaller no. the f, the more expensive it is?

What is the main diference btw lens of (18-55 f4-5) VS (18-50 f2.8)? i suppose its the f size... but what different in output will these 2 makes? Is it sth like, f4-5 can allow u to change apperature size frm 4 to 5 while f2.8 only have a fix aperature size of 2.8? f2.8 seems to be a rather big aperature size.. so meaning this lens f2,8 is more suited for small shallow field of depth pic?

thanks thanks..

Hi, sorry to chip in to ask the lowest price you guys get 30D body at where? Please help!! plan to get one around $1.7 is it possible?

no. E.G: 17-55mm f2.8 constant, means you can use the maximum aperture at all focal lengths, from 17mm to 55mm. However, you can stop down to the minimum aperture, sth like f22 or f36, depending on your lens anytime.

If let's say you have a 17-85mm f4-5.6, it means that you live with a f4 at 17mm, and f5.6

You are right to say, that the smaller no. the f, the more expensive it is. And I suppose all third party lens makers like Sigma, Tamron and Tokina have mounts for Canon too.

Thanks... i was recommended to get the EOS400D body + Tamron AF18-200mm F3.5-6.3 XR. The Tamron lens is so called general use for all purpose.. Any comment on the lens? Thanks.

keep in mind: all purpose, yes, but in terms of AF speed, it is compromised. I know a friend of a friend who keeps a Nikkor 18-200 VR DX in his dry box because he feels that the AF is just too slow and is the type of lens you can throw away in bad lighting conditions. I've not heard about the Tamron, but apparently their super zooms suffer in build/image quality too. (friend sold away 28-300 because of this.)

In photography, buy a good lens with great image quality. That's the most important thing. and a good lens is hardly a super-zoom.

get from tcw...my fren get the 400D w kit for $1350

Oh mine... that is cheap... Any idea if yr fren has the norm freebies like the 1 GB?

(1) Any other stuff to get @ the same time like a screen protector / filter???
Thinking of getting 400D but might juz wait for abit longer to check out the IT show nx week.

(2) If juz getting the body alone, what lens can suggest? Something not too exp coz juz starting out this new hobby. (Noob)
More into travelling, & taking portraits & scenery.
Thks in advance.
