I just want to share some of my exp with Alan Photo last week.
I did not know where to buy Sony CX7 and decided to give them a call. Being an Angmoh, I know that i won't get a rock bottom price if I just show my face.
Over the phone, I was told S$1860 for the complete package (video cam, software, bag, printer, courses). This was before GST for a cash transaction.
When i went there, I realized that they were not selling any Sony video cam and the guy who quoted me was out for dinner. Anyway, one of his colleague told me he could help me and check the store next door where they normally get their video cam. He came back saying that they did not have the printer from the package which was fine by me and they gave me an other S$70 discount. I could proably have bargain a bit more but I was in a rush.
So bottom line, S$1790+GST for the CX7 package minus the printer (=S$1,915 w/ gst)
I have seen people talking about overseas purchase but I am in Canada right now and it's selling for CA$1,199 (before tax) or CA$1,356 (with tax in Vancouver) which is equivalent to S$1,742/S$1,970. For this price, no package though so you still need to buy an HD editing software and a bag so at the end of the day, I would rather buy in Singapore so next time I want to buy more stuff from Allan Photo, I know I will get good service.

Ps: I was in Shanghai for 48hours on Monday and tried to buy these 8Gb Memory stick duo for less than RMB150 (S$30). Since I was not convinced they would work or that the capacity would be correct, I brought my camera with me and I can now confirm that NONE actually worked after checking more than 10 of them including the 4Gb. A few show the correct capacity and after formatting the stick, I could film and take a few shots but once you off your camera, when you switch it on again, the stick does not work. So if anybody has a good place to get cheap stick in Singapore, let me know!
