Where to buy and change split focus-screen for K-x

High quality optical glass can cost up to US1000+ for 1 kg
Yes, optical glass itself is manufactured from rigorous processes. The raw silica itself is cheap. Just like carbon. Also dirt cheap raw material but once it is weaved into carbon fibre becomes exp. Gundam plastic model the plastic raw material also dirt cheap but the molded product itself is not. Anyway my point is that alot of products may be made of dirt cheap materials but its the manufacturing process that makes them expensive. So, cannot always base cost on the raw materials.

Recently I sold my K3 (Nikon) with grids (rule of 3rd) from Focusing Screen.
It was for K20D but it can fit the KX w/o adding any shim for spot on manual focus.:)
Wow, I never knew that spli screen meant for Nikon can fit onto Pentax. Hmmm... I have somewhere lying around a Katz Eye with Optibrite meant for Nikon D200 can this kit on K-x? Researching it also.

I think focusingscreen.com used the raw k3 to cut to shape. I doubt can fit in right away. Yeah. Even across Pentax models like k10d ->k7, it's not compatible.

normal K3 focusing screen bought off the shelf cannot fit into the Pentax. the ones from FocusingScreen.com is modded.

same for katzeye: must buy the one that is meant for the camera model.

oic... bummer for me. The D200 Katzeye screen is wasted now.

For those of who intend on replacing the focus screen, be extra careful on the type of handling tool you use, the screen scratches easily and also on a Nikon when I tried it I had some specks of dust that caught on to the screen. I had to remove the screen blow clean and reinsert again, it was a scary experience if you have never done it before and if you are butter finger like me better get someone else to do it :)

:bsmilie: if everyone just gets someone else to do it cos they've never done it before, then how would anyone learn how to do it?

maybe can "practice" by removing and reinstalling with the original screen first before trying it with an expensive K3 or Katzeye?

Can cut your old screen down to size lah, who says cannot be done?
I have cut down original Canon Ec-L focusing screen down to size for my K-7.
Just a matter of taping the screen, measuring, scoring and snapping the excess off.
Of course not as precise as focusingscreen.com who use CNC machine to trim off but it is doable.

Its no major surgery lah!
Just do it in a clean room and table.
I found no difficulty at all doing it after seeing how its done from Fengwei.

It will also come in handy in future when there is a need to clean, calibrate, etc

It's straight forward and can be done within a minute. I think there's a video tutorial at the focusingscreen.com website.

But my hands itchy changed between screens quite often. Now my screen/sensor kena infection of dust. Doesn't really trouble me since I don't mind cloning away the spots in PP. I'd send it for servicing, but Emjay timing not that flexible for me...

Yah when change focusing screen, please dun let ur pet become your assistant like me :sweatsm:

Now original focusing screen scratched thanks to Yukimura(my cat name)

I have a used Travor Focusing Screen on hand that I used for my KX. It is a dual diagonal split screen.

If anyone want to loan this screen to try using or installing before buying their own. You can contact me. Will see how we can arrange that. Probably only to Pentaxians whose nicks that I can recognise.

Disclaimer: I will not install for you and will not take any responsibility for any mishap that happen when you use or install the screen.
