40 a bit hard leh.. HWZ garage?

Hi CKiang,

I went to Sim Lim Square(SLS) this afternoon,
there's a shop I think by the name of 'Cymax' at 5th Sty (or 4th sty) selling the Adaptec 2940UW OEM version @ $168
I think it does not include the external cable.

FYI I bought the
- Adaptec 2906 PCI SCSI Card @ $95
- WireTek 1.8m SCSI II cable DB50M/DB25M @ $30
at M Technic Resources SLS #06-41

Not sure whether will it work well on my PC.
Hope to install & test the Nikon CoolScan III (LS-30) this Sunday.

Happy shooting & scanning....

Yo CK.. I got AHA-2940, 2940UW, 29160, which one do you want? ;) Quote a price.

Wah, where?? ;)

I am just looking for a simple SCSI-2 card for my Coolscan III, but if that U160 one is so cheap....

I'll probably try looking for M-Technic. Thank Tony K for the info.

Greetings CKiang,

Got an Adaptec 2940UW PCI SCSI-2 card up for sale - brand new. 3 hours old to be exact. + a 68-50pin cable.

However if you intend to use it for the CoolScan III, do be aware of it's purpose.

Here's the writeup from www.nikon-euro.com

"2940. This adapter is intended for systems which need to boot (start up) from the SCSI hard disk. It is not designed for use with scanners and the use of a single card as an adapter to interface to a bootable hard disk and a scanner is not recommended. The system hard disk(s) should always have its' own dedicated SCSI adapter for speed and reliability. The 2940 has many variants which offer increased speed. In particular the suffix "W" (wide SCSI) cards have a 68 pin external connector which must be terminated to 50 pins to drive a scanner. Using a wide SCSI card with a scanner is a common cause of problems due to termination issues. These cards should not be used with the LS-10 scanner."

Let me know if you're still interested. Market price for the card: S$168.00

Basically, the site is saying that it would work. Why the worry?

I am using 2940UW with the CoolScan III, it works fine.

I just installed the Coolscan III & scanned some negative strips.
Luckily it works fine.

FYI I using it with my Pentium II 233MHz 128MB RAM PC with Adaptec 2906 SCSI card.

Oh good! Do you mind sharing your configuration with me. Will PM you as this is getting a little OT. ;)

Sorry CKiang.

It's okay. I got an used 2940UW, 68->50pin cable, and still can't get the thing to work. The card complains of some termination problem, hopefully it's the cable....

Scanner termination has been set to ON, nothing much to set in SCSI BIOS.... left everything at default also cannot. I remember there's an "Auto" setting in the BIOS for termination. Hopefully it's the cable not being made properly.

Suntronics in Funan has them. Few hundred dollars. Not worth the money if you are running only a scanner or don't have any U160 devices.
