120 slides are more expensive than negs. And to use them on a holga.... well... it's a bit of a waste of good slides.

Good for a try, but not for the long run unless you have $$$ to burn.

woah that's pretty cheap...

anyway.. i have one more question to ask..( i'm going to buy my film tomorrow btw..)

ahem anyway... for the 120 film, there's negative and the positive film.. most poeple use negative is it? or do you use positive..i think positives are soooooo coool!! but i hardly hear people mention.

are they the same price?

does cathay sell? i forgot to ask and i was blur so when i asked for processing and she asked negative i said yea..

but for both negative and positive is the development price the same?

I would advice using of positive film on a Holga, since it's more expensive and at the end of the day, you'll be digitalising your shots anyway! Furthermore, Holga doesn't exactly have a metering system, and the controls ain't as precise as the other medium format cameras. So, most of the time, your exposure would probably be one or even two stop off the "correct" exposure. With the smaller latitude of tolerance for slides, as compared to negatives, shooting of slides with Holga would most likely result in disastrous shots.

However, if you're interested to shoot slides for the heck of it, go ahead!

don't knock slides in a holga! i use kodak and fuji asa 100 slide film in my holga exclusively for color photography. some restrictions: you can only use the holga outdoors in good light. for all other situations, you have to play with asa (e.g. provia 400) or push when developing or use manual flash to add light.

for really low light situations, you'll have to use a bulb setting which some modified holgas have. it is fairly easy to mod the holga to add a tripod mount. again, don't knock it until you've tried it. there are a number of fine art photogs who use the holga this way.

btw, you can use your holga as a 12x6 camera also. just don't advance fully to the next frame and take care while framing. there are lots of webbies on the net for this.

sorry for rambling on and on! the holga is my only camera after a long series of expensive german and jap cameras and i've really come to love it!

I have used provia on my holga once before. Unfortunately I dropped the camera during shooting and the majority of the roll was lost.

Anyway, the point is 120 slides are expensive and I just wouldn't recommend them to a new holga-ist. After you've shoot a few negs and are fairly proficient with the camera, sure, by all means go for it as long as you can suffer the costs.

i don't really understand what you're trying to say..

you said "I would advice (advise?) using of positive film on a Holga since it's more expensive" and then you go on to say that shooting of "slides with Holga would most likely result in disastrous shots."

so.. you recommend using slides in a holga because it's more expensive than negatives and because that you're likely to get really crap photos? (slide film and positive film are the same thing, by the way..)

i'm sorry if i sound knit-picky, but i was just trying to figure out what your advice would be..

Basically I think he missed the "not" as in "I would not advise" :)

The new Holgas all come with "B" mode and tripod socket. ;) And people usually feed it with slide for the cross proccessing effect.

Will these new models accept a cable release?

Quite keen to get one if so!

Unfortunately no. But you can DIY or get the mods here! ;)

some kodak shop can process 120 film also ... eg. my neighbourhood , the kodak shop can only develop my 120 color. but not b & w because they do not run D process. fujifilm some do some don't.. some do 120 process but then have to wait for a week like that. my place jurong west ext. does 120 color neg processing @4 bucks.

Which place in Jurong West??

guys, if i have remembered correctly, negs are not cheaper than slides.

a roll of slides costs only $4.50 at Ruby. i know because i've bought several rolls from them already. the most abundant one is the Kodak Etakchrome. Provia comes in once in awhile, but they're very scarce now according to the friendly uncle.

for lomo, i would recommend cross-processing the slides, which brings your cost of developing down to normal C-41 rates +/- 1 or 2 dollars because E-6 processing could cost quite a bit for 120mm.

for people in the west, i would recommend bringing down your slides to Miao Laan Color Centre (Bukit Batok St 11) for cross-processing and printing. :)

yar agree. .I've been looking around for 120 film in neighbourhood in the west.. but i guess 120 is only common in cathay and ruby. I'm lucky to be able to get my color neg develop at the dev lap near my home. My black and white will be done at ruby at the moment. till i master the developing of B & W.. how the thing will turn out haha. i also not sure cause i jsut send in my first roll of B and W. haha.. will post the print of ruby when i get the films on tuesday? I also own a holga. but i'm moving to lubitel.

If you are using your first roll of 120 on a holga.. jsut take note of the light. I wasted two roll of films underexposed because i didn't use flash in indoor places. :) not suitable for indoor without flash.

when you get to fam lomo... haha move to something else.. holga should be jsut for start ups and fun shots.

Will be organizing holga seed outing haha.. or rather entry level seed outing. :)

cheers have fun with your holga!! or anyother lomo!!
