Where do you get your films developed/scanned?

For those who don't develop their own film, where do you have them developed and scanned?

So far I've only tried 2 shops, Ruby and another one in PP but both of them scanned the photos to JPG. Are there others that scan to DNG? Is that possible?

I'm hoping to develop my own film eventually, but not now, I just want to focus on taking pictures first

DNG is a RAW file format. It is mainly used for images that contains bayer mosiac images. The purpose of the RAW file is actually so that you can choose which program you would like to use to demosiac the file, like adobe camera raw for example. When it comes to scanning, the scanner scans RGB at every pixel, so there is no need for demosiac-ing and hence no need for a RAW format. An uncompress TIFF format is as good as the scanner "RAW" file.

Thanks, so I should ask that they scan straight to TIFF? Are there shops out there that can do this for me?

Hi, i recently sent my slides to Photohub, depending on which branch you send it, you can get it within 3 hours or 3days. I chose the high-res scan option, which I received a CD-ROM , the pix are 3000x2000 and in TIF format, around 18mb.

hi,

I sent mine to forum galleria which sent it to commonwealth. If you go straight to Commonwealth branch, it develops in 3 hours BUT is closed on weekends.

I was wondering how much it would cost to develop a normal colour film at fotohub in forum galleria. I just shot my first two rolls of film and looking to get 'em developed really soon.

Is there are different in development cost between different types of film?
Sorry, but where can I sent kodak E100 for development? I read the specification saying it need E1 to develop and prefer only at kodak shops.

When you mean Kodak E100, I believe you're refering to the ektachrome 100. That is a slide film. Slide films use a chemical process called E-6. Different brands may call it different codes, but essentially, it performs the same reactions to give similar end results. Its a bit like shell calling their petrol fuelsave and caltex calling it techron.. it is still petrol, and no matter which brand you pump in your car, it will still run.

On the other hand, colour negs use a different process called C-41 and BW negs use BW chemistry. Of course, kodak will tell you they'd prefer you to use their own branded chemistry, like Honda will ask you to use their original spare parts. The problem with E-6 chemistry that is that the sg market is so small that things have come to a point where it is only economically viable for one lab to do it; which is fotohub. Partly because of its scarcity and the short life span of its chemistry, E-6 is a little more expensive to develop compared to C-41 or BW chemistry.

As for E1 chemistry, I have not heard of such a thing. E-6 chemistry is a kodak term, maybe you didn't read it properly?

Ya, I read it wrong, It is E-6. Anyway I went to fotohub site, but they didn't say the cost of developing per roll of films, any idea how much it cost?

For your info E1 is the very first colour reversal processing in 1950s that user can process at home, after that E2 and mid 60s E3 process.
Early 70s E4 was introduce, and 80s E6 till now.

Is there a way to purchase E6 chemical? If possible, I might consider self developing it and maybe learn from one of the guru here on the stop bath and stuff. I have seem videos on such stuff on youtube but have never spool any films and load into the developing tank before. We can come to a deal on tution fee for the crash course

haha.. E-6 chemicals cannot be bought in SG, need to import in. The process is quite a hassle actually, you need strict control of temperature, which usually necessitates the use of a water bath, many different chemicals to work with. And if I'm not wrong, you need to run a test strip through it too to ensure the colours come out right. After all it was designed to be a lab process and usually not economical to DIY. But if you are still keen, you can ask zk-diq for advice..I believe he is very experienced in this field there are also a few others who are trying it out too for large format films as fotohub have stopped accepting those already.

I scan at home and just upgraded my scanner. I shoot enough film that it's cheaper for me to get the scanner.

I went back to using film just 4 months ago,for my "hobby" work, as i use a DSLR for work, and i have used FOTOHUB. They are good but in long term can be expensive.

FOTOHUB : BW film developing @ $5 a roll

Found this guy who does film developing at $4 a roll, $3@ if you send 2 identical rolls.

Hi everyone,

I just wanna ask about the quality of photo you'll get. Does it depend on both developing and scanning process, or just depend on the scanning part?
If it doesn't depend on the process of developing, I can develop it anywhere at cheapest price, then after that can print or scan it at a good place, right?
