Where do you buy your professional video cameras?

Hi,

I dont know whether i am posting at the right thread, mods kindly inform me if I'm wrong.

Anyways, I know some of us buy from bhphotovideo or/and other reputable website. However if one were to buy a pro videocam here in Singapore, where should one start? Some would say SLS Hai Chew or even gauge price at Mustafa, any other place that you feel..erm..comfortable or have experience with? Comfortable as in good customer service (not to mention after sales) and have positive experience buying from them.

Budget around sgd9-10k. Codec..liked XDCAM EX from JVC ProHD but am open to suggestions ie; avchd, avccam etc. Use will be for documentary, run gun, events.

Your kind reply is greatly appreciated.

Sensys as well as Krishna also can try

Thank you all for your replies. I really appreciate it. I just hope that we have a listing of shops selling professional video cameras and gears etc, like the ones we have here with shops selling cameras.

Hi Isaryan,

You can buy Pro video camera in Singapore from Profi Enterprise or Hai Chew. Both are around the same area so easier to go both places to enquire.

Profi website

Haichew website

The website of Hai Chew is still under construction.

So, went to Hai Chew at SLS, wanted to buy the Sony NX70 but the salesman who served me was so stuck up so I did not buy anything in the end ... sigh ...

The only "good" thing is that I can still research and keep looking ...

I went to Hai Chew to enquire about the NX30 and got a similar treatment. Did not even bothered to show me the product. That's the last place I will part my money with. The next day I went to Cathay Photo and they showed me both NX30 and NX70 for comparison. That's definitely my kind of service provider.

Maybe we could go together and get a better price for two?

Yes damn lousy service at Hai Chew. That salesman who served me also dunno his product well. He has no interest in selling the Sony NX70. He is pushing to sell the bulky Panasonic, say all broadcaster is using Panasonic. When I ask what size imaging chips the camera used, he say all also AVCHD ... sigh ...

Another sign of blur is this: I asked him why, despite the Panasonic so big, they are still using the same size sensor chips as the smaller video camera, then he said is because now everything also small ... Hahaha ... like that also can ...

Yeah good idea, but I am stuck between:
1) Sony NX30
2) Sony NX70
3) Canon XF100
4) Panasonic AG AC 130

You see, initially I thought I need the rain proof, so I thought $4K for NX70 is good. But now that the NX30 is $1.2K cheaper, I am not too sure if I need the rain proof anymore. Hahaha

Assuming I go for the NX70 for $4K, then at about $4.3K can oredi buy the Panasonic AG AC 130

Too many choice is killing me ...

That is exactly the problem when there are two many choices and it will never end. Once you decided on paying $4.3K, there will be another better model for a few hundred more …Kekeke.
After reading Bamboopictures comments about the NX70, I am not sure either whether to go for the NX30 or NX70 but I would wait for a little while to watch/read more practical reviews of NX30. So far it sounds good and I am following Bamboopictures's suggestion to read reviews of PJ760 which is exactly the same as NX30 minus the XLR.

PM me when you are ready to purchase. I'll PM my contact to you.

Yes, that's the problem ... :(

Yes, please do not rush into buying. Research thoroughly before you commit to your purchase. But sometime I am guilty of impulse buying too ... :(

I have replied your PM

Not only are they stuck up, they are also expensive. There is a shop around the corner at the same level specialized in selling video equipment. It is cheaper if you know how to bargain.

Seriously, whats with that guy at Hai Chew..i had the same treatment. I went into the shop to enquire...probably the coldest salesman I've seen. The camera he was selling was 200bux cheaper than the other store just around the corner..but I wont go to that shop for the service.

Yes, that's right... Hai***w... the coldest salesman in the world... I bought 100mm tripod 3x higher than normal price, my bad, I didn't check first from the internet.
I won't go there again...

I also experienced cold treatment from Hai Chew. They are expensive by the way, and the products they are pushing are mostly export versions (i.e. warranty). I ended up buying my NX5P from Cathay Photo. The customer service is excellent, I tested the camera for 1 solid hour and they never even make noise. Eventually I bought from them because of my positive experience. They are expensive though, but at least I have a peace of mind. They sell warranty versions.
