i used to go to cathay. the sales staff there are not interested in serving you. ask to see a second copy of the lens and their face turn black. initially i thought cos they were busy so i would go on a weekday 4pm and i still get the same attitude. i have stopped giving them the business and why should i give him the commission (if any) for jackshite.

CP service used to be very good; you can ask, try but there was no pressure to buy. But in the recent two years or so, I agree with your experience. While I still get pretty good service there, I somewhat feel that something is missing.

I think this question needs to be more specific.

For lenses, I usually buy from the BNS. But for accessories, ebay (lazy to go to town) or OP.

yeah dont know why they become like that. victim of their own success?

anyway, each time i go to CP i always feel like i am imposing on them. at john 316 i leave the shop happy.

I've bought stuff from...
- Cathay Photo
- Alan Photo
- John 3:16
- TK Photo
- Orient Photo
- The Camera Workshop
- Ruby Photo
- CamX
- Lord's
- Harvey Norman
- Online shops
- Hong Kong shops
- and last but not least... Clubsnap B&S ;)

Thanks!!

I personally like service from SLR Revo. Thumbs up for their after sales service: Bothered to help me print a copy of reciept after my friend carelessly mispalced it. (Bought Di866 Canon & Nikon together and he kept the reciept)

I've had good experiences at Cathay, Ruby and Camera Workshop. But for sheer pricing, you can't beat Adorama.

I bought from a few. My current favourite is Orient Photo.

Cs B&S, OP, MS Color AMK (Near S11), EBay

i found most of mine in the dustbin.

i think they got dumped when their previous owners BBB'ed.

你总是那么的幽默!

Being a foreigner, I had the opportunity to buy from various shop in Singapore over the last 10 years.....

As for the last 5 years, I have used only Cathey Photo, the same sales person (Michael Tan), and the nice thing is, he takes out his pricelist, show you his cost, add a bit of profit and clinch the deal. :D

I have no more bargaining or dealing from shop to shop to get the “right” price, and you never feel done in.

As for John, I am sad to say, they do not treat the foreigners the same as the locals, they give the idea you’re just another price hunting tourist, give any price and attend to the locals. ;)

Nice. Does the red bin means red ring only Canon lenses, and the yellow bin meaning gold ring only Nikon lenses ? :bsmilie:

back to the main topic. Increasingly, second hand market :bsmilie: though i hardly make purchases on the whole nowadays anyways.

when i was a newbie i used to love John 3:16 until a sentinel incident that really put me off.

I only buy at the shop who can offer me the best price after i have done my homework....

I don't need their TCSS

Alan Photo.
prices tends to be slightly better & kudos to good service

depends on timing
cathay - near office
ms color - near home
t.k foto - for thinktank :bsmilie:

I find the folks at John 3:16 too friendly which create long queues for other customers. It took my friend 45mins just to get a simple screen protector for his 7D. The staff was just talking and taking their time with their regulars. Services is great, no doubt but if you need a fast purchase, you would be better off somewhere else.

my thoughts exactly! J316 is friendly, sure.. but friendly alone does not make good service. they were super slow. had to hang around ONE HOUR to get a tripod. and im the kind of guy who does the research at home, gets advice from people, then goes to the store just to check it out n buy it. so no delays on my part. they just take their time with other customers and dont care about keeping u waiting. i find that very poor service in the end.

alan photo was terribly unfriendly and blunt when i tried to get my canon 50mm lens from them, so i never stepped in there again.

my vote was for cathay photo. excellent salespeople, helpful, quick, friendly enough.. and competitive prices. best experience ive had so far was from CP
