but how come they make you pay for the new elements? was that the original arrangement when you sent in the lens?

Hmmm... whatever happened to the courier service? Must have been blacklisted or fined by Canon. I hope someone from Canon or the courier got insurance.

Topic aside, maybe I should send my lens for cleaning and get the director to deliver too. :bsmilie:

When I sent in, I thought its fungus. The technician called me a few days later and tell me my lens is fogged. SO need to change element.

I tried to reason out regarding the payment. He say can only refund me the service charge. I also gave up liao lah...

5D no need to hunt lah...it there....but not enough $$ as bait to lure it...

good to hear the outcome.:D

Final straw to the 'BIG BOY' on your repair fee, bro .... GOOD LUCK and update us accordingly

Just an update:

I just had a very unhappy conversation with the Canon guy. He refused to refund me or return me the elements I paid for and says to put it on hold til I decide.

Making me thnk whether should I carry on using Canon... Forget 5D and get D200?:dunno:

actually if you sent in a fogged lens and getting back an unfogged lens, i guess its fair to pay for the "changed elements". and since you are playing for the "changed elements", they should accede to your request to get back the fogged ones.

i'm also thinking of d200..not because of canon service, but because i think canon is grossly overcharging us for the 5d and 1dmk2n ;p

D200 is pretty impressive, I must say...although its aps... waiting for review then make decision

Sad to hear what happened...

However, before making a decision after Phil Askey's review of the D200, may I strongly suggest that you take a friend's D200 and take it out for a shoot. If you feel comfortable with it, then by all means switch.

However, if you have been using canon for a really long time like over 5 years and you are comfortable with how the system works, then you might want to think twice about changing.

Both systems are fantastic in their own right and in their own way. If money is not a question to you, then buy both systems. ;)

You actually took it seriously...ha ha... I also have a D70, I must say (not trying to start another N vs C war) Nikon's body are very user friendly.

depends whose POV it is...

In the end, the decision is going to be yours.

Good luck.

Canon refused to change their decision. Anyway, at least I get a replacement for my lens. Thats good enough already.

Will try not to send to canon for repair unless got warranty... More expensive yet so unreliable. 1 lesson learnt.

This thread had served its purpose, so I'll close it now.

Thanks for those who show concern.

Cheers
