Do u know of a shop in SG where I can buy Bessa cameras (new and used ones)?

Prime camera has a few used ones.

Anthony's collection has them but no idea where he's gone.

Fotografix in Lucky Chinatown carries them new. And so does john 3:16 in Funan (limited selection).

Thanks for ur quick reply Keltzar.

May I also add that I'm also looking for a standard prime lens e.g. a Nokton 50mm f/1.5 or something similar

Just a word of caution before you get your lens. The purpose of using rangefinder is ease of picture taking i.e. not weight down by heavy or bulkiness of equipment.

I've tried the 50mm Nokton, although is tack sharp, the bulkiness actually draws me away from it. You may like to consider this and do you do low-light photography a lot.

If no, then perhaps the 50mm Color Skopar will do. Take note, as this lens is not known for its tack sharpness, but rather it gives a classical feeling on B&W photo. The built & handling of this lens is as good as my Summicron 35mm!

As a starter, a 35mm lens is definitely a safe & good buy. Fotografix does not have any 50mm lens, base on last week check with him (Mr Wong).

Tachi..

i believe someone here in CS is selling the nokton 50mm?

I dun mind any lens actually. The reason I mentioned 50mm is because I'm most familiar with 50mm on my film SLR. Would 35mm be better for range finders?

there is a shop at lucky chinatown( opposite peoples park complex) at the 2nd floor that carries the bessa line . but for new cameras and lens only. dunno about his prices. you may wanna check that out.

he opens daily after 2 but usually his a little late. also heard that TCW also does bringthem in from HK.

last but not least, the man reason some shops cited for not carrying them cos you can actually decided on you setup and order in as a single order from cameraquest.com an get a better price from them than in local. local cant give you any better service when your set has problems cos there is no agant in singapore.

thus no difference buying here or from overseas.

Fotografix at Lucky Chinatown has CV gear but he's a bit pricey, at least 20% more than US prices. I think your best bet is to pick up a used one here on CS.

As for the focal length, it's really up to you. The CV lenses are relatively affordable. If you have never used a 35mm on your SLR before, why not give it a try on the RF?

I personally like 35mm. CV has a nifty small and cheap lens called the Pancake II.

There's a Bessa 2 at Prime now btw. I think the listed price was $680.

I'm toying with the idea of importing a Bessa R3A in. Aside from Cameraquest, is there anywhere else I can do this? HK?

I have just purchased a 50mm f2.5 Color Skopar from Joseph Yao from Hong Kong. He's prompt in response and price is good too. PM me if you want to contact him via email.

get from joseph yao ... his price is cheaper and service better than any of the local shops in Singapore. Take a look at www.cameraquest.com for lens and bodies and email joseph@yao.com what you want.

FYI, cameraquest.com is having free worldwide shipping right now

Really? That's cool. Hmmm....this is so tempting.

i would rather pay a bit more to get the stuff sooner from Joseph Yao. It takes an average of 2 days to reach.

Actually Joseph's prices are still a little better on some items even with shipping, compared to Cameraquest.

Though we are paying more for the shipping charges, you'll know when the package will arrive as you can track it as he uses EMS.

I buy extensively from Dr. Yao and I have been doing business with him since 2003. All but one of my current CV lenses were bought from him. The best thing about buying from him is that he actually checks the functioning and accuracy of the CV products before shipping. He also takes great care in packing the order with air-pillows and foam peanuts. Since he is also a RF enthusiast, he could also give you invaluable information on techniques and technical details of cameras and lenses. :)

He must be cutting costs, all I got was the sports section of the south china morning post in my package... no foam peanuts
