Where got people get a price-to-price for upgrading one... Of course need to top up to get the latest model. Just like a 1D3 user upgrading to 1D4, it was also a 3k +/- upgrade.
You have to pay top dollar for new products. Simple as that. Else... there's always a 5D2 in your hands.

Really sad if that's the case. Usually for electronic items, we would expect newer models to come with better features at prices even more attractive than the older model. Eg TVs, iPads, computers, etc.
Camera trends seem to be that newer models get a lot more expensive than the previous model. I don't mind buying the older model if they still sell. Problem is, when the newer mark3 and out, mark2 will likely be discontinued.
$5k+ is too ex. Isn't that closer to the 1D4? Between the 7D and 5D3 pricing (if it's really $5k+), that's a fairly big gap.
Malaysia price also out already, I posted yesterday, not sure if you guys saw. it will be less than $4500 just across the causeway for this model. Canon Malaysia 1+1 year warranty.

I would have thought evolutionary means evolved = not much changes.

Out of everything you listed, the only thing I wished for is the sensor cleaning system on the 5D classic. Until I learn how to do it myself, I frequently need to give Canon $21.40 to do it for me, maybe once every quarter. All other items not really different after I rented a 5D2 for a week last year. And do many people use Auto-iso? Cos I have never used them before and never felt there is such a need too :think:.

Like many have mentioned, the upgrade is not for everyone. If you don't need it, then of course the extra cost is not worth it.

Sense this man has. I never considered the 5D MkII for second as an upgrade to my 550D because it had no redeeming features over the 7D for my uses and preferences. And now, the MkIII has everything I could ever want in a low-light, high speed action environment (read:concert photography) camera.
