Its around S$5000 plus if converted to SGD from HKD...
If that is the case...

Hmmm..still a top up of 2.3k at least for 5d2 owners...in fact, i think this may put off upgrading plans of current 5d2 hobbyist owners

You have to pay top dollar for new products. Simple as that. Else... there's always a 5D2 in your hands.

Camera trends seem to be that newer models get a lot more expensive than the previous model. I don't mind buying the older model if they still sell. Problem is, when the newer mark3 and out, mark2 will likely be discontinued.
$5k+ is too ex. Isn't that closer to the 1D4? Between the 7D and 5D3 pricing (if it's really $5k+), that's a fairly big gap.
On a separate note, i found the 5d-5d2 upgrade really evolutionary, and it was like 1500+ top up (based on 3.6k street price). 5d3 has some decent upgraded features, just not that evolutionary.
Could you advise us what is the "really evolutionary" difference other than adding video??
I would have thought evolutionary means evolved = not much changes.
revolutionary vs evolutionary?? improvement of mk2 over classic - besides video, new sensor, upgraded digic chip, much better lcd, higher iso capabilities, auto iso (except for M mode) and sensor cleaning system?

Firstly, the local street price of 5D3 is not out yet.
Secondly, to people who need the upgraded features of 5D3 over 5D2, the extra price is worth every cent. Better focusing/metering system, extra stops of ISO performance, dual media slots, and faster FPS are to die for. Okay, probably not to die for. But they can earn the $1k+ back with one/two assignments. One have to look further in terms of output.
Like many have mentioned, the upgrade is not for everyone. If you don't need it, then of course the extra cost is not worth it.
