When to use Manual focus & Manual Mode?

May I know why I cant set the Exposure Compensation while I am in Manual Mode?
I can only set the bracketing/HDR when in Manual Mode...
Is my camera malfunction or wat? Thanks.

because in manual mode, you control both aperture and shutter speed to get desired exposure. in aperture-priority (or shutter-priority) modes, the camera is calculating the correct shutter speed (or aperture) to get proper exposure. exposure compensation lets you over-ride the camera's choice in case it's not the settings you want to get the exposure you desire
