read somewhere that scientists are developing 'visual stealth' technology - current tech is mostly radio and radar stealth.

hundred of mini digital cameras would be situated across an object, which is covered in a cold plasma incandescent alloy. The cameras would capture the environment around the object and project a 'camo' imagery across the plasma skin, thereby rendering it 'invisible' to all but the most observant.

unfortunately, this may not really work for airplanes due to the heat signature of the jetstreams and the speed at which the plane moves means that the processors managing the camo image would have to be close to a supercomputer 3 x the size of the plane...

but wouldn't it cool....

Unfortunately they found not only after the Gulf War that DU rounds were more environmentally dangerous than initially thought.

If i rem right, the SR-71 Blackbird was originally RS-71, some mess-up in nonmenclature..

Btw, the "S" in SR-71 is for "strike" - it was designed to carry a 1MT nuke as payload... And Blackbird had a smaller brother, A-12 was it? :think:

Old warbirds are cool.. Sopwith Camels, Supermarine Spitfires, DH Mosquito, Beaufighters, F4U Corsairs, F4E PhantomII..

Copters? I vote YAH-56 Chayenne, RAH-66 Commanche...

Also, i like planes that's from Burt Rutan's Scaled Composites - Voyager, Proteus, WhiteKnight, SpaceShipOne..

Heh... The GAU Avenger 8..

They actually tried mounting the gun on a prototype of the F-22.. The recoil of the gun was enough to stall the plane..

Anyway, at Mach 3 and flying so high, it's pretty difficult to shoot the darn plane down...

But then satelite imaging technology is extremely good these days.. Resolution down to 1m * 1m for commercial satelites..
