What's your criteria selecting a photo backpack

like not so fat and squarish...i look at most bags and think that that is a box with straps. ugly! haha. any sling bag sorts which are slimmer?;p

Go buy a Zinc bag and pad it with foam, then put your stuff in lo.

Ah. You can try Domke bags. They're quite expensive though. For camera bags can forget about slimness already. If you want it to be slim, you'll most probably have to pay more and/or be able to put less stuff in it.

Crumpler might be nice for some, but it comes at a high price and I don't really like the padding.

Thinktank definitely is quality which is worth paying for, but doesn't really look good IMO. It has the typical camera bag look(not considering the urban disguise).

oh my, must photography make people carry ugly looking bags..that's so sad...

crumpler for me isn't too bad looking but i think it looks too 'fun and games' and not serious enough..haha.

Like everything in photography gear, it's pick and choose your poison. Just picked up a think tank, it's not the best looking, but functionaly, seems pretty solid.

Was happy with my Flipside 300 until I got my 70-400mm G lens ... it wouldn't fit properly...

i got flipside , troublesome to access camera , need to put down and open all up ..

You need to use the waist belt and flip the bag to your front and open it.. that's how you use the flipside

Though if the carrying straps bigger, will be much more comfy..

Yah, couldn't agree more. But to me, another factor that helps made up my choice was security. The only thing I wish that its has that isn't there, is a compartment to accomodate a notebook computer.

Fast accessibility to equipment + stability, especially in quick situations e.g. when I need to grab something out of the bag and have no time to zip up the compartment or secure the harness, can the bag still be carried or worn safely without all the equipment tumbling out.

#2. has tripod carrier
#3. can carry laptop
#4. smaller & better built quality than Computrekker AW

I also thinking of getting this Back Pack...
But would be Vertex 200AW... Any advice?

Hi

My key consideration is comfort. I find that most camera bags are very well padded even on the back, where it gets warm in our humid temperature. I havent found a dedicated cam bag with good ventilation. So my current setup is a deuter backpack with the mesh backing. I have an old destroyed microtrekker inside. The top is cut, so I can slip my lenses out from the top loading deuter. Its very secure, comfortable. Maybe cant load up to the gills with the full lens load (as I can access from the top and not from the front), but I place things I dont use much right into the bottom- batteries, charger, cables, etc.

That gives me a 3 lens compartment- one for a Wide Angle, Another for the Telephoto. The middle section is for my cam and lens attached. The best thing I can swing the bag to one side, and swop lenses easily. The top load Deuter makes sure nothing falls out. I just toss my used lens inside. Plus there's a bottom compartment for change of clothes. And if necc, I can swing a laptop by squeezing it between the back frame and the microtrekker.

Discrete too.
