Recently my 5400HS died on me (or so I thought)...can't fire when I mounted it on my Dynax 7.

One of our kind Minolta bro lent me his 3600HS...same problem. Thus I believe it's the contact points on my hotshoe? I tried cleaning the hotshoe and it seems to work again.

Time to send for servicing? Any idea how much it costs? Will appreciate if someone can recommend a reliable and affordable place for servicing.

May be can call for the technicians or go down to KMSC for quick inspection and ask for quote? If really need to charge or later bring to Sony, then decide later.

Just bring down to KMSC. With all the talk about Sony being mercenary, my own experience with Sony service centre has been pleasant. Don't forget Sony is a big brand and to survive in Western markets and a competitive global scene, it has to be reasonable. I don't believe they can be unreasonable in common sense stuff like charging for simple cleaning services.

If they really do charge, I don't think it should be anything more than a token sum. Instead of worrying about it, just bring it down and see the response of the service staff for yourself. After all, you can always decline their offer and look for alternative service if you deem their charges are unreasonable.

Keep us updated of your experience! ;)

I did, used the blower and stuff and the flash seems to work now. Better send it for servicing cos dunno when it will die on me again.

Probably just dirty contacts. Use a toothpick with some thin cloth/lens cleaning paper soaked in alcohol to clean the contacts should do the trick.

Hi Vivientan, this is a small problem lar! It happened to me also! It will happen, when after your flash in and out too many time with the contact points, and the contact points will Oxidize. You can use a pencil to clean on the contact points, but must be careful hor! Pencil is a good conductor, so don short the contact points!
Why never call me when you got this problem?

vivientan just use a pencil eraser to clean the contact do not use polish as they may remove any protective contacting.

Use the pencil first! If you do a mistake than use the eraser lor! I already said that pencil is a good conductor mah! Eraser also can help to do, but pencil come first, if you want to write a song, make mistake than use Eraser to correct it. OK??? Thinks of in school time how you write it.

I think when do the pencil thing, better remove the batteries 1st, make sure no pencil drawing between any of the metal contact.
