Whats is a ideal potrait lens on a M9.

I'm chucking in my opinion

For ladies: the 90mm f2.2 leitz thambar with original centre spot filter. Specially made for portraiture, purposefully soft and glows like crazy. Very Theresa teng 80s look but chicks love it.

For guys: 75mm Cron 2 asph, stone hard edgy look, every pore/detail visible, high contrast, great tonality great with b/w

Both flatten the field nicely for tight in headshots

Haha can i say i swore by Voigtlander lens?

Since i recently picked up an Ultron 35mm f1.7 and my all time fav 50mm f1.5...im going to say these are v good lens!

Nice size & the black one is quite light.

Another vote for the Nikkor 85 f2.0. It's really quite a gem.

Leica's current line are Summilux, Summicron and Summarit lens.

type them one by one, eg. "summicron portrait" in http://images.google.com, and compare the differences.

it becomes very subjective after a while

There are many lenses to explore in the M world...this is where it makes the difference comparing with Nikon or Canon SLR Prime lenses...all M lenses are good lens in one way with individual characteristics... "latest is the greatest or most ideal" may not be applicable here...:bsmilie:

Portrait shots is not just to capture a pretty face, that's just soul-less, it doesn't matter how sharp, how pretty the bokeh is or how nice the colour is. In my entire photography career 1 most important thing I learn about portrait shots is, it never really about the photographic tools but rather your "charm", how you break the ice, how much confidence you gave to your subject.

Good conversation before the shoot is always better than shooting thousands of frame than choose.

Btw questions when it comes to "Portrait". What portrait do you like to do? Environmental portrait? "Head and shoulder"? Extreme portrait?

Well in that case the answer is easy, look for the lens that can go that close, 1 that I remember could do so is 50mm Summilux pre ASPH.

Summicron75 would give you the "closest" focus relatively for "regular" portrait lens.
Macro-Elmar90 would be the "closest" but it's f4.

Here is a shot with the Thambar, but without the centre spot. Hard to find Thambars in good condition, a rare lens.
