For those who still want the longer reach of the 1.5x cropping factor, it's simple - just crop your pic after shooting. FF means having affordable 18mm WA, I mean true, real, genuine wide angles. It's a matter of time, or how long to wait before we get a affordable and decent FF with the F-mount.

True. I saw 12mm samples of the sigma 12-24 taken by 1Ds, pics of Antartica landscape. Wow! Beats anything posted here in this forum.

Hmm....crop the pic ah. Not to say that you can't, but then you see if you have shot birdies before (not the big ones like kites, hornbills, herons), it usually doesn't look that nice at 100%, esp when you are shooting wide open to get the required shutter speed (sometimes you need to have that for capturing in-flight pics). Having the bird fill up like at least 50% of the frame (width or height) would be nice, you can print at least 5R stuff very nicely. :)

So you gain some, you lose some.....i guess some will find it advantageous, others don't. :)

It is call the SLR/N from Kodak. Cheaper than the 1Ds, it is both FF and has a F-mount, higher pixel count. Many forget here that F-mount exist on other brands' cameras like Kodak and Fujiflm.

actually sometmes grip not built in is a good thing, when i need to travel really light, i leave the grip at home.

best is to have the grip built in and use a high capacity battery like the one the D2H is using.

i would say a magnesium casted body, a higher MP CCD, a greater dynamic range CCD, faster focus, more durable buttons, higher grade components used & anti-dust technique would be great. under $2.2k would be even better. :bsmilie:

Hmm,I think for the replacement for D100,the things I'm looking for will be :

1. Low noise in high ISO
2. Faster NR process
3. Increase latitude
4. Higher/faster sync speed for flash

I'm quite happy with the 6 megapixels actually, but just hope to have a better sensor with less noise and better colours.

I never forget.

It will be nice of Nikon to manufacture something similar to the Kodak SLR/N - as a replacement to D100? Of course, the pricing should maintain at the same level.

Wishful thinking huh?

Aiyah. For me, I would like to see the following in the replacement to D100 :

- Velvia-ty colours (don't hate me hor, I'm a film guy)
- Noise control
- Ten-pin remote release
- 2x crop for my macros (hahaha... everyone will kill me now)
- USB 2.0 mass storage bridge (i want to connect a battery-op hard disk drive and click away)

My two cents

Yeah, the Kodak SLR/n is a wonderful camera that Nikon can definitely improve upon like
- Faster working speed in writing, in the FPS, start-up
- Better low light sensitivity and much much lower noise at high ISO
- Look more like a nice camera, elegant like the D100, and not like that ugly duckling.
- Reasonably priced like 4.8k due to much, much higher volume of sale

I sincerely hope so! The SLR/n could improve on all the factors you put up there. Again Kodak seems to have timing problem... The cost WHEN Nikon moves to a FF camera will definately be cheaper.

Looking at the backside of my D70, I feel that the LCD is somewhat small. I have seen so many tiny digicams sporting 2 inch or even 2.5 inch LCD - now that is big. I do not think a dSLR cannot accomodate a bigger LCD.

A bigger LCD means you can check your shots much much better in terms of exposure, composition, sharpness and other aspects, especially with zoom function.

The LCD is more for reviewing purposes, on composition, I didn't know a 2.5" LCD can let you see sharpness though. And you can see exposure from a 2.5" LCD? Guess the DSLR should do away with the histograms then.

Well, to add on, some of the 2.5" stuff you see like the one on Sony W1 are actually not so clear. I think they use the word "hybrid" or something. Not enough pixels....W1 has only 123k pixels (just checked). A D70's 1.8" is 134k, a 1DMk2 is 2" with 230k pixels. You will be reviewing the pics from a bent arm's length, so i guess clarity is important. There is a big difference in area between 1.8" and 2.5" LCD.

To check sharpness...i mean focus, best is that you zoom right in, hopefully enough zoom to 1:1 actual pixels. :)

I heard somewhere that there is something called OLED that is gonna to replace LCD. OLED is supposed to be run cooler, use less energy and best of all, gives more vivid and better colours and cost less to manufacture. Some kind of a miracle product that is gonna to be at the backside of every digicam and dSLR in 2 to 3 years time.....

Yeah, OLED displays are actually already appearing in products - I think the Samsung E-700 mobile phone uses an OLED display on it's outer screen.

The histogram in the LCD is cool looking, but in local argot, they say it's Tak Guna, somewhat utterly useless becos only the green channel. So, if you shoot a red Ferrari or blue, blue sky, it would be entirely out if you try to compensate. Another gadget a la Japonaise. So much customer delight for you man.

D2005 :blah: :blah: :blah:

I will be upgrading to a DSLR within the next 6 months when funds are adequate. Hope the D100 replacement comes with all the much desired upgrades and features.
