Nah. I don't necessary buy from a shop bcos of blind faith, its more like there is a trust in them, based on what i had also done for homework for what i'm about to purchase. Shops do give sound advices, but such shops are rare, so i'd rather my money goes to them if they offer a decent price and is trustworthy, than another shop who tries to milk me but in the end reluctantly sell me what i want.
Its really not blind faith as my follow up purchase may not be from the same shop, just that i will give them priority considerations. That should be how you do retail, I won't have blind faith as i had done retail myself, and of course i know they probably may not rmb you. But ultimately, there is a matter of preference and my preference is not based on blind faith but trust. How u win the trust is another issue.
But definitely for me, not by hard selling 550D based on logic (by John 3.16 salesman) of "a few hundred more only ma. then 'you' can use it for longer". the 'you' as though thinking FOR me, but obviously the you was thinking more in the line of my moolah. Please, I was thinking, I'd done retail. Duh. How'd I not know whats on your mind. Told you i'm a noob u dun believe, so therefore that was it, i told the dude "a few hundred more, so u profit more ma" and I walked out of the shop.
Don't flame me, its really my preference. Maybe loyal customers they will advise according to needs, but for me, I told him i need to have good low light shots, and DxO mark told me 550D need not necessarily do far better than 1000D, its still up to the user. But he laughed off data, and instead of advising me on my ignorance, if any, he still harped on how it is more worth it to get the 550D. Annoyed the hell out of me. Felt like I talked to a wall.
I doubt he was thinking about all out profit. If it was sam that was serving you though. He's quite honest.got one time my fren was buying something, john 3:16 din have stock and sam actually told him to go opposite buy cos they have stock. Another time he was buying battery, he din have stock. He actually told my friend to go ap cos they got. I don't know of any other salesman that would be so helpful, the service there is seriously:thumbsup:
Sure he may be hardsell, but he has your interests at heart. I would push you towards 550d as well. Its equally easy to use and 550d is much more long term.
If you really need ease of use buya d3000. Its guide mode is fantastic. Teaches you quite a fair bit. Something that 1000d doesnt have. 1000d is becoming obsolete anyway...
Just my two cents![]()

if the price is good then its more impt. if u wan service then take e savings and go for a spa or massage.
DXOmark CANNOT be trusted. 550d at least 1 STOP BETTER in high iso. I tried it myself and din trust some dxo figure. Never blindly trust online sources. Want comparism? Go down shop try yourself, better still, let sam off all lights in john 3:16 for you to test high iso![]()
I was quoted very good price in SL Revolution or is it SLR revolution. TS if u go John 3.16 (just below challenger at funan) might as well check out SLR revolution which is just across. John 3.16 is friendly but when I asked for 1000D quotation the dude keep hard selling 550D. The intention is clear, its about profits, but imho he did not understand when i said i am a complete noob and i need a less advanced camera to get the hang of it. SLR Revolution will quote a good price that is if u pay by cash (cos nets charge a certain percentage of the money transaction) so why not.
Alan Photo at funan is quite stuck up, they only service u if u look like can pay. I wear slipper go they bo hiu lan me. Damn sian. I like sales people who are honest about what they sell and think for me more than for profits. Hence my receommendation is biased, such that i will not recommend those who i feel hard sell the more expensive model, eg Bally at 2f funan near Alan photo.
Well, no offense but I would have advised you to get the 550D over 1000D as a stranger as well, if your reason is that you want a less advanced camera, because all the cameras in the Rebel line are used pretty much the same way. I have a 500D and I kind of regret it now because my sister had advised me to get the 50D instead. I thought it would better to buy the 500D because I was a complete beginner...oh well enough about that.
I usually buy stuff from MS Colour unless they don't have stock for something. They usually reply to my e-quotes pretty fast and when they don't have abundant stock, they would ask me if I want to reserve the lens. The staffs are quite friendly and chatty too
Last time I went to get a filter from AP, they ignored me and tended to the other, richer-looking customers instead, probably because I was a 17-year-old kid wearing tee shirt, shorts and slippers. So I got my filter from SLRR nearby, which wasn't that warm and welcoming, but still ok
