I own the 70-200mm VR, then i got the 18-200mm VR.
They are created for different purposes, and I bought them for slightly different purposes. ( Although after I gave away my 18-200mm I had to use the 70-200mm to cover up the longer focal length )
Know what you are buying, understand its strengths and limitations, and you will not be too disappointed with unrealistic expectations.
As for whether to get third party or not, the Nikon 70-200mm is heck of a trustworthy workhorse tested since film days. I know not of the Sigma, but just get the Nikon if you got the budget
