What would you say to a newbie ?

Haha.. I always tell my students.. Before pressing the record button

1) Check exposure
2) Check focus
3) Check audio

Check Media Storage. Empty card slot is the worst.

I always tell my students, "I hope your daddy is rich!" Lol

one of my former students is uber-rich.. i think he got more equipment than me..

What you all have shared are all valid.

Honestly, it is more than these quick tips in order to develop your talent and passion.

IMHO, there's no better way to accelerate ones' learning curve in production than actually editing, color correcting and critiquing one's work in post. It's the best place to start learning about composition, camera movements, lighting, directing and story-telling.

Happened to my friend's wedding ... after the wedding, the video company he engaged told him "Sorry leh, we forgot to put in the tape (last time still using tape) when we record ... sorry sorry ..."

If only your shooter understand what the editor wants. My approach, editing starts when you shoot.

I learned a lot from you. Everything that you shared about shooting, editing and even running a business. Man! That's a lot.

Your battery still with me leh. Feel so guilty holding on for so long. Anyway, my son got HFMD for the second time. (out of topic a bit)

honestly, I would tell a real newbie who is really passionate about this industry to focus on telling the story and not be caught up in a gear marathon.

This industry needs better multi-taskers. Everyone wants to come in as a DOP but few can even coil up a mic cable neatly to save their lives.
