What would you buy for D700?

Just saw this list from ken rockwell. Seems like not a good idea to get DX lenses.

Offloaded most of my DX lenses for FX already, my last 18-200 would be replaced by a 24-70mm soon followed by a 70-200. My 17-55mm, 10.5mm and 12-24mm have already been replaced by both the 14-24mm months back and 50mm 1.4. My 105mm VR was the first FX lens amongst my DX lenses.

Like Entropy_h say, ideal lenses would be 14-24, 24-70, 70-200 and the 50 1.4. I see DX formats for professional usage been overtaken completely in the next few years by FX and only DX formats would be available for Pro-sumer and entry level DSLR. And long after that DX would be phase out completely when the economy of scale favours FX. With only the megapixels and features separating the Pro and Entry level DSLR.

Add the 300 f/2.8 and the 200-400 f/4 to that list...

Nah, I'll go with this one:

on top of my earlier 3 lenses.

Then I'll have 14 mm to 500 mm all at constant 2.8. Find me another set-up where you can get constant 2.8 from 14 to 500 mm.

Because back then people thought the cost of such a system would be extortionate, but actually, for the professional market, both FX cameras are very affordable in price.

This Sigma lens is BIG. You would need two ppl to work it, one would support the lens barrel on his shoulder like a Rocket Launcher and the other one manning the view finder. ;p

Why do you state that using DX mode will give you additional pulling power? I assume you mean more zoom.
If I'm not mistaken, switching the D700 or D3 to DX mode just crops off the part of the sensor that cannot be covered by the DX lens.
So it does not make sense that using DX mode with an FX lens will give you more reach on your zoom.
Note: DX camera bodies apply a 1.5 or 1.6X CROP factor to the lens, not a magnification factor.

Yeah, i am aware of it. I think the only situation i would probably use DX mode is when shooting far subjects that requires additional pulling power.

Yeah that was what i'm thinking. Better to take it full frame and crop in pp.
Basically my point is that switching the cam to DX mode doesn't magically give you more zoom ability, right?
A 200mm lens on a DX body produces the same field of view as a 300mm lens on a FX body. but the image is cropped off and not magically zoomed.

Does it mean that if I have a non-DX lens like 28-70mm f2.8 on the new FX D700, I will have 28-70mm and not 42-105mm ?
Why Nikon want us to buy FX lens ? I'm very new to Photography. Please advise.
