What will be announced?

I hope that they announce the 70D with a totally new sensor so that we can know that Canon is serious about catching up on sensor technology... particularly in the DR area.

I am disappointed to read the rumours saying that the 70D will have the sensor of the 100D/SL1. Hope Canon is serious about this too.

Yes, the sensor technology has become a little tiresome particularly with the Sony based sensor so far ahead in DR. Still though, Canon has improved greatly on its low light capabilities. Hopefully the next iterative improvement with be with Dynamic Range.

may all the same with only changes made on the 7dmk2 text logo on the body, from current silver to gold color?

Rumours say the 7D2 will have a different sensor but that camera is supposedly due later. Actually for Canon to optimize profits they usually release the higher end camera first then release another with lower specs later.

will have to match, close or over what competitor has to offer. anything too little is as good as telling wildlife & sport users to start considering ditching canon supertele. canon can price 7dm2 higher and user will still buy but once user ditch system, they have to try very hard to win back user and still may not win them all back since user has no compliant on competitor system

7D mk2 can't be better than 5D mk3.
See what 5D mk3 have, minus away some features....
1) lesser focusing points
2) lesser coverage against sand, water etc
3) lighter weight
4) built in flash
5) built in WiFi
6) keep the 100% viewfinder
7) 2 SD cards slot ( prepare to change )
8) black color only
9) plastic LCD screen
10) No headphone jack ( 6D already don't have)
11) built in battery grip
12) shuttle speed Maximum 1/12000
13) 10 fps
14) price below 6D

You get the 7D mk2, no need to make guessing game.

So far the speculations are:
1. EOS M replacements (2 bodies)
2. Higher end dual pixel DSLR
3. EOS 7D Mark II
4. EOS 1 Series 75 MP (Canon’s Testing a 75MP+ Pro DSLR)
5. Large sensor Canon Powershot S120 or S200 (A Large Sensor PowerShot is Coming in 2013 | Daily Camera News)
6. G2X (Canon G2 X Specification [Rumor] « NEW CAMERA)
7. EOS 3D (Canon 3D « NEW CAMERA)

Before we get our hopes too high:

First, we’re told by a great source that only PowerShot announcements will take place on the 21st. We’re also told not to expect anything “high end”, nothing like the Sony RX100 II. I would imagine at least a few new PowerShots will have features that go along with sharing photos.

Anyway Canon has already said previously that they have "No room for large sensor compacts."

However, he ruled out the idea of a larger sensor camera along the lines of the Sony RX100 to offer more of an image quality distinction between smartphones and compact cameras. 'I think the market does exist but it wouldn't be very large. We think we have a good balancing point in terms of price, image quality and size. Lots of other combinations are possible, but, once you go below APS-C the next logical size is 1/2.3 inch', he says.

It is quite interesting to see Canon thinking this way because some say that "sensor size is what matters and the trend is for larger." Is Canon making the same mistake like it did for interchangeable lens cameras by not following market trends?

If Canon comes out with a full frame sensor non-SLR mirrorless camera - as far as Canon is concerned, it is not a "compact".

But the high volume sales are not in the high end expensive compacts. That is a niche market. Relatively few buyers.

What manufacturers worry about is the mobile phone camera supplanting the low end digital compact.

Agree. The new numbers are looking quite bad for manufacturers.

Yes I agree. This does not bode well for consumers either. As manufacturers make less revenue there will be less to provide for research and development. This means that new technology will be slower to come over the years.

I believe that Canon is better positioned than Nikon as Canon's business is more diversified. The king of diversification among the top tier camera manufacturers however, is Sony. It will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next several years.

I would not be surprised about a merger in the medium to distant future... perhaps Sony and Nikon... dare I suggest a new name... Sonikon?

My hope is that Canon will rise to the challenge and deliver what prosumers want. It is disconcerting to hear things like there is no room for large sensor compacts etc.
yes, Canon is well diversified and they can choose to focus on photocopiers and printers instead. Sony is the dark horse here and it is doing whatever it can to catch up. From iphones, Sony Xperia, to Nikon fullframes, all with Sony sensors. Canon better up its game.

canon will acquire sony sensor business division?

I am getting the 6D this week. I certainly hope Canon is not announcing the 6D Mk2 on the 21st. :kok::hung:

The chances of a new 6D Mk II announcement anytime this year are slim to nil and I heard that slim just left town. Congrats on your new 6D!

Congrats. You will be lucky, by current trends Canon will announce the 6D2 only in 2019 and available in shops 2020. :)

Don't think so 6d2 will be refreshed so soon. It's still bringing in the money for canon and nikon isn't rocking the boat in coming up with d600 2nd generation either.

Enjoy ur 6d!
