UV Ultra-Violet Filter 55mm good?

If I don't remember wrong, BIG IF guys, the Pro1D was quoted at $110. I think so... can't quite remember... that was at one of the usual pro shops...

Woot thats expensive. I had a go at Tin Cheung , in HK Tsim Sha Tsui, last evening. Asked for qoute for Pro1D UV filter for 67mm , the guy replied 350 HKD , ard 60 plus SGD. If its the same piece of filter , holy **** , thats alot of difference ! :o

better to get a filter for protection.. buying a expensive lens and not putting an filter on it cause CZ didnt design their lens for filters isnt very safe. I had a friend who was shooting a wedding and thank god he fitted a filter. Cause some lady accidentally flicked something and it hit his lens. The filter had a small chip or crack.. imagine if the filter wasnt there. u would be dumping away a good lens. just get teh ultra slim filters thats cheap and so be it take ur mind off things. You are having CZ T coating anyways flare and ca is most likely still minimal. a little vignetting wont kill..

Yes, but mine was for 77mm filter thread.

Throwing question back to you TS.

So what filter did u get after hearing all the comments ? lol.

Read in Lenstip , that the Hoya ( Pro1D , and S-HMC) comes top for highest light permeability percentage and UV blockage . Not sure how much they cost in SG though heh

Btw I just bought a Hoya multicoated one for < 60. Its a super dust magnet! After cleaning it in the shop with lens fluid and lens tissue, I left the shop with it screwed on with my lens cap on and 5 mins later I open the lens cap, I see 6-10 dust strands stuck to it already! like WOW!

You can't keep off the dust, you can't see the dust in your pictures... don't sweat it bro!

CZ designed all the lens elements, so blame them.

But from CZ's perspective... "You want to pollute our pristine glass with a filter???"

Seriously, I used the lens hood as protection. works like a charm.

Exactly, cost ya much less and does the same, apart from the lens cover. I.e. all sensors are designed to ignore UV light anyway. The filter is only a gimmick(*) for the shops to make money, they sell you a kit with discount to charge you back on the UV filter.

Notice it the next time you want to buy a lens, 'UV filter, sir'?

(*)Unless that is, you are still shooting film.
