what to do with stray kittens???

Hi, a friend of mine found 6 stray kittens. She is adopting 2 of them although she already has 4 dogs and 1 cat at home. She doesn't bare to send them to SPCA. Is there anyone who can help? thanks! :dunno:

How about asking your friend to post the ad at ad boards of places like Cold Storage & vets' clinics?

I would like to but I can't as I've already got 2 cats at home.

thanks for your suggestion....just that we need a quicker solution as the kittens badly need a new home since my friend's place is already overcrowded with pets....

Don't ever send them to SPCA, as the thing that they will most probably do would be to put them to sleep.

The harsh reality is that they don't have enough resources to keep so many pets at the same time....

If the kittens are healthy, SPCA would probably keep for a couple of weeks to see if anyone can adopt them.

Though you might wish to send the request to CWS (Cat Welfare Society). I believe some of their members have space to take in one or two.

However, given the current craze of culling stray cats (read "cats only") I think you should keep them far far away from AVA, town council, HDB, and all the govt-linked bodies.

Does anyone know the habits of kittens/cats? I had a favorite cat that I played with and fed regularly a few months back near by flat. She is very adorable and would always run to me when she sees me from afar. But when I came back from overseas after a few months, she's gone. :dunno:

I heard that a cat will linger around the area where there is food. Is it possible she is off somewhere to search for food and never comes back to the old place?

She also gave birth to 4 little kittens but after a few weeks of nursing and before I left, I noticed the kittens were missing. Do they leave their mother after a month or so?

I hope she si all right or well taken care of by someone. I'm just afraid some barbarians or hearless creatures from AVA will kill such poor cats. :cry:

Sigh. Its sad and ridiculous.
Just wish they'd do something right for a change, like go after those pigeons and rats. And after those sicko people who throw food (rice, chicken bits, fishbones) out of high-rise flats for stray creatures (felines and birds included). :angry:

If anything, she's probably caught and culled. Stray cats, even sterilised ones, are territorial. They'd stay on at an area, unless they run out of food, get run over on the roads (chased by people), beaten to death (by sick people), or nabbed and put to sleep.

Previously, AVA'd sit quietly by and help CWS and SPCA do the sterilisation of strays rounded up. All of it paid for by volunteers and even some of the kindly vets at AVA themselves, so I hear.

It is more likely that the Town Council or some sick resident sent for the pest control people. Most of them grab the cat (kittens as well), kill it, and dump the body in jungle areas like Seletar or Mandai. Learnt this from the company that went to whack my students' school cat. Previously, AVA did not put down strays with clipped ears. They'd check with the volunteers manning the district where the stray was caught first. Now seems like it's "kill-on-sight". ;(

He is not clipped. That will imply a higher chance of getting whacked.
One way is to put a collar on him, bell and all. Then maybe they will thing its an escaped pet.

well think my estate soon becoming a cat sanctuary....
got enuff food to go around (there're grps of ppl going arnd feeding cat feed to the strays)..
enuff teritory....
cats mutiplication going a little off the scale...

but so far no one complain.... think that if nobody makes a complain, AVA and SPCA won't make a move.
