What to bring for Honeymoon Trip to Taiwan?

I'm going to Tokyo for honeymoon too next month, but we go free & easy instead of follow tour. These are the things that I'll bring:

1) my wife (most important, :bsmilie
2) D90
3) Nikon 12-24mm f4
4) Nikon 50mm f1.4G
5) 0.9kg eye-level tripod (for taking picture together with wife instead of asking stranger to take for us - they may run away with my camera )
6) Nikon remote control (good for taking picture together with wife without timer constraint)

I think I may need to bring another prime lens - Nikon 35mm f1.8G. What do you think? :think:

Congrats to you on your marriage.
My advice to you is to keep all your DSLR and gears at home and just carry a P&S cam with you because you will not have the time to set up your tripod nor compose good shots while travelling with a tour group. By all means, shoot some (sub-standard) photos to remind you and your wife of the happy honeymoon moments. Spent all available time getting to know your ex-girlfriend. She may not be the sweet girl that you know once you get home after your honeymoon is over - that's how the phrase "when the honeymoon is over" comes from. There is still plenty of time in future to hone and show your photographic skills, but a bad start to your married life can be difficult to repair. I write from experience because I'm happily married to my one and only wife for 38 years and just came back from a 7-day group tour of Shanghai and Beijing.

And 2 small advice on travelling:
1 On packing clothings: "Pile up clothings on one side and money on the other side. When you are ready to pack, remove half the clothings and double the money".
2 On consumption of food and health: " If you cannot cook it, boil it or peel it, forget it".

In any trip, my advise is to enjoy it first. Suck it all in... Look at the scenery with your eyes first, smell the air, feel the surroundings.. Then, only then, raise a camera to capture it. All too often people run around, turn around with viewfinders glued to their eyes. And forget to breathe it all in.

IMHO, photo-taking do not come first. Enjoying it all with your own senses is key... a photo just serves as a memory jerker that brings the emotions and your sensations at that moment flooding back into your consciousness from your memory banks.

Just bring a PnS. I remember you have a good one too, the EX1.

Hi firstly congratulation to you.

Secondly i would like to advise you to just bring Your Canon 7D, Sigma 18-200mm( This is enough to cover for most of your pic ) and the 580ex II Flash as it is a tour guide trip there are not much time for you to setup or change lens.You should make your self comfortable so that u can concentrate on taking nice nice photo of your wife and the scenery.

body with 18-200 is enough (ok MAYBE a flash) ..... i would leave the tripod at home if u intend to do self-portraits with wife (just get someone else to shoot you 2)

Just enjoy , shoot when you can , dont push it and do a seperate photo-dedicated trip some other time ......... you want a long happy marriage

You might also end up pissing off alot of fellow non-photog tour group travellers if you get too 'deep' into shooting ........... almost always you will tend to be one of the lagging last few back on the coach while everyone waits for you to grab that 'one last shot' .... u might find it cute or OK but others will not

First hand experience? Haha. Yeah, if I go shooting, I will stay away from tour group holidays.

As for me, I would just take my ultra wide. If can bring tripod, good, but if cannot then never mind. I guess it's different for everyone.

Hi Kentwong81, thanks making a point to me to bring remote. It's indeed very useful rather than I set by using timer or seeking help from strangers. Wondering should I spend money to buy light tripod head as my is heavy duty for birding purpose=Heavy.:sweat:

Probably would only bring my 18-200 and 50 1.8. Really feel like bring my 100-400 just in case I need it(tropical Singaporean "kiasu"):bsmilie:

My 0.9kg tripod(including the tripod head) is Slik Sprint GM Pro II which is just $125. Not sure if this meets your budget? But I'm not sure if it fits your heavy zoom lens 100-400mm(seriously I don't agree that you bring this big lens for your honeymoon).
0.9kg is not heavy and I don't wish to go backpacking with above 1kg tripod.

Leave the tripod at home.

i suggest that you bring ur DSLR with a 50mm.
Do bring ur PnS cos it will be easier to self-snap shots with ur wife.

Ultimately, it is not the contrast and sharpness that makes a photo unforgettable - it is the memories that makes the photo unforgettable.

REMEMBER to enjoy this trip and every photo will be a great shot.

"your ex-girlfriend" is in singular form and is another term for your wife.
I am a romantic buff and I always introduce my wife to friends and strangers as "my ex-girlfriend". Sometimes, I can see shock faces and my wife will always giggle. This is a simple trick to make wives happy because a unhappy wife is hell to live with!!:sweat::sweat:

You will find out the answer to the meaning of "when the honeymoon is over" when your honeymoon is over, so, meanwhile enjoy your honeymoon.
