I would suggest extra batteries for prolong shooting and uv or skylight 1B filter for the protection of your lens element. Flash is not really a necessary but not always. Do you have any flash in mind? It will cost you from an additional $150 - $350. Depands on the brand/model.

UV filters (around 8-10 bucks) a must for protection of your lens. For tripod, I bought the Slik Sprint Pro ($85) and changed the ball head (around $45) to a better one. The brand sounds like Man.....something. Can't recall. If you are going on holiday, you may want to get an extra batt at S$110 - $120.

A good camera bag.
A good tripod.
Extra battery.
A set of cleaning tools.

Enjoy your trip.

Extra battery.
Extra storage, such as an XDrive. The extra fine JPG on the A1 is 4-5MB, while fine is around 2.5MB. So even your 1GB CF card will be used up very quickly. Storage goes up even more if you use RAW.
UV filter to protect the lens
Small tripod.
Small bag, preferably not identifiable as a camera bag. Keeps thiefs and muggers away.
Small cleaning kit. Mine just consist of cleaning cloth and soft brush.
The A1 vignettes if you stack > 1 filter. Therefore, if you buy a polarizer, you must be prepared to keep swapping filters instead of stacking them if you shoot wide angle.

...my recommendation for a travel "light" high mobility...trip....

1. The camera
2. External flash (if have)
3. A set of filters like cokin (grad neutral density OR grad Gray....+ some color filters if you take landscape)
4. A handy yet steady tripod (sprint Pro is okay).....i use a cheapo modified $25 one.....
5. Extra Battery (either combo grip + x6 AA or Minolta li-ion pack)
6. cable release....if you do long exposure or slow shutter...7.
7. Cleaning kit.....

28mm.....to 200 mm....should be good for your trip...if you need wider wide or higher zoom then you need......to BUY!!!!

A nice sling bag......for ease of travelling....

so this is what i intend to buy so far...

A1 = $1450?

uv filter = $15

poloriser = $35

xtra batt = $120
any recommendation? (either combo grip + x6 AA or Minolta li-ion pack)

transcend 1 gb cf = $400+

camera bag = $50

tripod = i got one which i considered it to be relatively good one....

cleaning kit = $?
my budget to spend = $2600

By the way how's the quality of A1? to all A1 users....

Planning to get that cam too, but with battery pack instead. Saw a pic of it on Steve's website and its taking 4 AA batts not six (that's what I saw). I would recommend it as AAs are easier to replace than proprietary batts

Do you intend to add in a external flash too? Anyway, my bag is lowepro EX 120 (Express Collection), cannot put in the grip (which I do not buy).

How much is the crumpler bag that fits an A1 with batt grip, external flash and some filters plus accesories cost? My Lowepro is too small to squeeze in all.

Which external flash would the more seniors photographers recommend for using with the A1?

I bought a Crumpler Formal Lounge (http://www.crumplerusa.com/products/camerabag/the_formal_lounge.html) and it fits my 2 filter lens, A1 with the battery grip mounted with it,blower,Sanyo battery charger,Minolta charger,X-drive II. All those can fitting in the bottom half of my bag while the top portion i am able to fit my 12" ibook. And not forgetting one of those 500ml Nalgene bottle (www.nalgene.com) I able to carry all that around most of the time.

Minolta 5600HS and 3600HS.

Don't get the x400 series. It doesn't work with the A1 if I'm not mistaken.

The list of things to buy so far

A1 = Approx 1450 w gst
Transcend 30x CF 1GB = $400
1 NP400 = Approx $120
2x4pcs rechargable batt = $32
Hoya UV filter = Approx $15
Hoya Circular Polariser = Approx $35
BP-400 Batt Grip = $165
Suitable Camera Bag = $50 approx
Flash HS3600 = $230

Total = $2500 Approx

Correct the list if i made a mistake on the pricing...
