if u are a newbie, scene mode is useful. Coz newbie got no idea how to control DOF or slow sync. By pressing any of this scene button, the problem is solve.

When I was a newbie, I did everything manual. That's the way to learn, the scene modes are just gimmicks. :)

I started out using manual... pretty slow in shootin.. then tried aperture priority... to gimme faster shots...

Usually when shooting scenery i will use manual. for others AV is my way of shooitng.

Mostly Av in available light or outdoors. M for flash photos indoors and very occasionally P when I'm too lazy with the flash.

actually, Nikon probably makes better "doorstops" cos the F-series cameras all have rubber coated material - grip better. Use Canons with its light and with smooth plastic covering, break wind also the door will slam shut ..... :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

That's a good one Darren. :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

I used to use Aperture priority until when I got the 420EX for the G2. Now mostly using Shutter priority.

Using the camera to take my kids mostly.

For my 707 i usually use manual i guess.
:bsmilie:

I'm almost always on A mode.... never used S mode except once or twice only.... P mode also never used on my camera before... and my camera dun have Scene modes.... :D Manual mode now starting to explore...

Mostly M, sometimes A and S almost never for P....:D

using a F80

M for macro shooting
A for everyday shooting (most of the time)
S seldom use
P when all above fails

:bsmilie:

Always aperture when it's handheld. When tripod is set-up, always use M.

i try to use M mode when using flash either indoor or outdoor.
A mode when not using flash
S mode seldom use
P mode when too lazy.... ;p

M - when I have time for composition and fiddling with those buttons or Flash photography.
P - for those quick response type

Have not tested my 10D yet, but my previous Canon's SLR "P" mode seemed to be addicted to 1/60 sec, dosen't deviate from that unless absolutely necessary.

A - for Portraits

Sports mode on the 500N!! :bsmilie:

only time the servo AF kicks in... yesh :p dot dot dot...

 and when u aint got a usm lens around.

*stab* 75 - 300 *stab* non usm.

but very weird. i noticed only in auto, for digi cams, thats only when i get nice people pictures esp when it comes to losing that red eye... :) skin tone all that as well... shrugz.

Aperture priority most of the time (for the newer cameras). Metered manual for the older ones.

1/60 I think is the default for most cameras..... cos of the 1/focal length rule....

99% A mode I think. The rest P, M. S maybe never.

Hate to admit it, but I use P mode more than half the time. :embrass:

No need to be paiseh what...... the technical aspect is not as important as the artistic aspect...... I suppose if it frees u to spend more time considering the composition, that would be great.....

I shoot everything exclusively in Manual Mode since my G3 (now using 300D), and underexpose by 1/3 to 2/3 of a stop most of the time. Find that this prevents blown highlights most of the time, especially in the tricky lighting situations I like to shoot my shots in. The underexposure can easily be corrected when I process the RAW files.
