Hi Sim,

No la no lor soh.... i appreciate your thoughts and advice. but is exactually what i am trying to learn from RF. i am using a 5Dm2 and i take more street and scenery photo type. i do take some portait at times too.

I am new to Leica and RF; and the lens are all very expensive thus i am asking for advice as forking out for a M9 leaves me not much for lens. Hence, first lens will have to stay a quite a while before i get another.. Although i am aware that its addictive just let when i started with DSLR. One thing for sure i like my picture sharp and clean.

Hi Jack,

Please do not mistaken my intention of asking where to buy as it where exactly to purchase. I learnt from friends that Lecia is cheaper in Europe than Asia but my concern is warranty. Hence, my initial question was intended to ask those with such experience to share if they had any issues with warranty/repairs when bring back to SG.

Hope it clarfies... and many thanks for all your advice... i can make a more inform decision.

Sharp and clean = anything Leica asph

Lagi sharper and cleaner = Leica "aspherical" asph spelt in full (double aspherical hand polished lens)

Both their words are like bible to me...

No offend, before you ask what lens to buy I think you should ask yourself what do you most likely to shoot more.

Different length of lens designed for different purposes, and different lens has different character,(even at same 50mm) just like Gommy's Japanese RF lens, they don't have to be Leica yet produced something that Leica couldn't achieve. Are they better than Leica glasses? I don't think so, but can Leica duplicate the signature they produce, I don't think so neither.

What I tried to say is try it out, even if you have to buy many copy of 50mm lens, you don't really lose money when you sell them anyway. There is no strict rules that you must use 75mm and above to shoot portrait and wide angle to shoot scenery. Nothing wrong to follow those "rules", but you are getting a M9 so I assume you already know the basic of photography, eg: use a 35mm to shoot a portrait might make the face distorted, look fat even, but impact when you see the photo compare with shooting with a 75mm is so different, the closeness you feel is totally different too. Look at award winning photographer Platon, he shoot the cover of Time's magazine by using 50mm lens for Hasselblad(equal to about 28mm in 35mm format) whether they are Putin or Bill Gates, or Bill Clinton, or Obama they all look very intimidating. Is that right to use wide angle to shoot portrait? I don't think it's wrong for his case.

Yes different length(mm) for different purpose(subject matter), eg: landscape, portrait, street etc, but different purposes also in effect wise(like I mentioned above portrait with wide angle) so try it out, don't limit yourself to only 1 lens.

Just enjoy shooting.

My English not so good, hope you understand what I mean, hence so lor soh, and hope you don't think I'm being rude.

Oi compare me with Harry is too X-File already, hope tomorrow I won't drown when I shoot underwater meimei.

But they are really my experience, made a lot of mistake along the way.1 way to really learn RF is to forget about your DSLR, operating wise I mean.

Too many master in CS, especially RF sub forum, I didn't even know there's ASPH and Aspherical, thought they are the same when ppl mention about it, Sir Kwan, kowtow!

It's really amazing what you can learn from CS forum.

Master Sim, Master advices!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Learn a lot from you too doc, like many when first started RF, there are only Leica. Leica sharpest, Leica highest resolution, Leica best bokeh etc, I agree all, but just like compare pizza and prata, pizza a lot of flavour, need a lot of burning, a lot of love to go along according to the Italian, prata very simple, bland even sometime, but just flip and flip and figure out fish curry or chicken curry to go along it became heavenly, add 1 telor you basically macam mahu mati.

Leica = German precision, expensive but cannot go wrong.
Japanese glasses = Cheap(compare with Leica of cause), may not be good, but sometime it's the flaw that become the best thing! Eg: flare on Canon 50mm f1.5, it's so wrong that it become the reason I use it most.

Hope it clarfies... and many thanks for all your advice... i can make a more inform decision.
no problem... we are all here to learn and share... just try not to asked the same question on multiple threads...
