Guys, sincerely thank you very much for sharing, these are valuable information as the lens are more expensive so must be selective to start with.
I saw the prices in Europe is much cheaper than SG, any problem if I buy overseas?
Third3rdwheel, I like your pictures especially the 2nd shot... Just can't wait to get a L

A lot of the masters here can see a "35mm view" or "50mm view" in their mind even before they put the camera to their eyes so they may favour the respective focal length.
I'm cannot do that. If I see something that interest me, I'll put the camera to my eye & compose according to what I see in the VF. So what lens on the camera is not so important to me.
I think for lenses, usually not much of an issue so ok to buy from overseas.
cheers,
.........Having said that if I use my m9 and wanted to use my "best" lens. I'd throw on my fujinon 50/1.2 or 35/2 ltm. Best for me is what renders the picture the way I feel most about and never about technical perfection.
I don't know what lens is best, but I felt that I only needed my summilux 50mm F1.4 pre-asph version 2 after buying the M9. These were shot with it.

As mentioned in another thread, looking to buy m9. What lens best.
Zeiss 50 planar is good. I tried it yesterday from a fellow CSer. I am more interested in the 50mm C-Sonnar.
Europe and US are offering roughly the same price but need to pay for GST. A fellow CSer is selling a M9 with some accessories. Might be worth your while. Not sure if it is local set. Not related to seller btw.
WTSell: Rangefinder - Leica M9 w/flash/battery/black dot
Thinking of the Zessis 50 but now not sure where should I buy the M9 from. SG? Or Europe.? Europe is cheaper, right? But not sure if there are implication on warranty.

TS - if you want to ask about where to get your M9, you already have another thread on that. hmmm...hope its not the same m9 by the same seller?
while i have only extracted one para from sim's post... the post in its entirety is excellent advice esp to those just starting out on their RF journey. :thumbsup:Yes different length(mm) for different purpose(subject matter), eg: landscape, portrait, street etc, but different purposes also in effect wise(like I mentioned above portrait with wide angle) so try it out, don't limit yourself to only 1 lens.
No offend, before you ask what lens to buy I think you should ask yourself what do you most likely to shoot more.
Different length of lens designed for different purposes, and different lens has different character,(even at same 50mm) just like Gommy's Japanese RF lens, they don't have to be Leica yet produced something that Leica couldn't achieve. Are they better than Leica glasses? I don't think so, but can Leica duplicate the signature they produce, I don't think so neither.
What I tried to say is try it out, even if you have to buy many copy of 50mm lens, you don't really lose money when you sell them anyway. There is no strict rules that you must use 75mm and above to shoot portrait and wide angle to shoot scenery. Nothing wrong to follow those "rules", but you are getting a M9 so I assume you already know the basic of photography, eg: use a 35mm to shoot a portrait might make the face distorted, look fat even, but impact when you see the photo compare with shooting with a 75mm is so different, the closeness you feel is totally different too. Look at award winning photographer Platon, he shoot the cover of Time's magazine by using 50mm lens for Hasselblad(equal to about 28mm in 35mm format) whether they are Putin or Bill Gates, or Bill Clinton, or Obama they all look very intimidating. Is that right to use wide angle to shoot portrait? I don't think it's wrong for his case.

Just enjoy shooting.
My English not so good, hope you understand what I mean, hence so lor soh, and hope you don't think I'm being rude.
