What Lens for Beginner?

Looks like BP got himself booted from the forum, so no more replies from him, for now.

Anyway, I'm also a beginner. And would prefer to spend a little more on a lens to get a good item, rather than get a few sub-alternatives that would add up to the price of an L lens.

Go for L lens la. wont regret =p

And of course,if u are planning to do mainly portrait shoots,get the batt grip.

BTW,do anyone know why if u use shoot vertically with the flash,the flash shadow will become more obvious?

lower the F stops for ur flash. use difusser to make the shadow less obvious.

i think bcoz when vertical the shadow is cast to the side of the person?
direct flash the shadow is cast behind the person. all shadows are filled

it's sad that you were deregistered. but i still hope that u still lookout about this thread, anyways fyi i'm a portrait shooter too. actually i intially wanted to buy the 85L but then got the 50L instead. because 50L is not really wide angle,but it's still considered quite, and moreover it's good for portraits too. Am loving every minute of it.

every since i've used that prime lens, i dont really anymore other lens, its become my walk about lens.

for now, im planning to get 35L, 85L ,135L and lastly 200L f2. aiya all these must save!:cry:

u can reduce shadows by lightsphere. I been using that to reduce harsh shadows or harsh flash light. =)

35L is very good for weddings shoot.

70-200 IS is not wide enough for low light no flash condition, i want to shoot without flash and need to shoot without flash. :sweat:

so its time for you to buy the primes after the zooms.

Primes are definitely better than zooms in terms of image quality. Sharp and crisp images. I like the constrast, the saturation and the detail quality of the lens. With a flash on, low light condition are no problem.

I dun need to many prime for now. 85mm first. In future then get the 35mm. =)

actually 20k per day is not a very high price to pay in other RICHER countries.
not like singapore, photography is CHEAP, compared to other countries, most people
are not willing to spend $$, for the moments of their life.

Eg. 1 full AD wedding, most people are only willing to spend 1k-2k
whereas in the states or other countries might cost up to 20k like you say.
