Hi Guys,

I am new at photography and i just bought a Nikon D90. I am wondering which Macro lens you would recommend for taking flowers and insects.

There are so many recommendations and choices, and i am lost at which would be best for a newbie.

Thanks in advance for any advice given:)

Many! For starters are the tamron 90mm (out of stock mostly) or tokina 100 which I just got! there's a few on BnS if you're interested. Other available macro lenses are nikkors 105vr, sigma 105mm.

If you need more working distance, there are other lenses longer than 150mm also..

All the above are dedicated macro primes that give 1:1 magnification..
If on budget, there are teleconvertors and extension tubes, but their milage vary with whatever lens you are coupling with..

This is my budget setup:

18-105mm VR
12-24mm Tokina
70-300mm G (Very bad CA)
50mm f1.4
SB600

Maybe will add tamron 90mm Macro in the future

im using a d50, but i've got a similar set up.

12-24 tokina,
50/1.8,
tamron 90,
sb600.

and i'm quite satisfied with it, but i may get a 35/2 :D

im using the kit lens plus a recently acquired 50mm f/1.8 which I very much enjoy using..
glad i got the 50mm..
