What is your favourite DOMKE bag?

The metal shackles on the Domke may damage your washing machine while spinning, don't ever try it. Anyway, Domke recommends hand-washing their bags.

Simple, use a laundry bag and you won't have that problem. I've done it for years with top and side loading washing machines without any damage to the washing machine.

Yupe , I stuff my domke into a pillow case and dumped it into the top load to wash. No probs at all

Hehe ... also read & learnt it from one of the threads in this forum :-)

with regards to the mold and fungus problem,

i tried some of those anti-fungus spray on it.
worked wonders for a while but the cost of the spray was not economical and the corners of the bag still grew mushrooms...

a leather tradesman overseas told me to go with the natural way to sun it. it's kind of bo bian with our humidity.

Call me old fashion but I still prefer the 'soak overnight in detergent' method, even though I have a 12kg Bosch front-loading washing machine which is still under warranty. My wife will kill me if I damage it.

Sounds like the best way is to get another digi cabi to store all our domke canvas  or change all to J series

To me the agitation of the soapy water in a washing machine removes dirt better that a long overnight soak. Because of the metal bits on the bag, soaking it too long may hasten corrosion. Better a quick wash and dry as leaving your bag in soapy water too long will cause fungus to thrive and your bag to smell.

haha 12kg washer is huge!! btw wont the metal hooks etc will get rusty if soaked?

I have almost as many camera bags as my wifey has handbags! ; )

I have only 1 Domke -- a J3 -- and it's my all-time fav. Bought it used some years back from a fellow clubsnapper and it's still going strong (though must say that I'm largely a weekend photog and the Domke gets lugged around only twice a week max).

It's inconspicuous looking (as compared to my clunky and boxy Lowepros), has lots of room and is really tough.

: )

Black tap the metal parts... you protect it from rusting and won't hear a sound in the washing machine :bsmilie: you learn that from your army right... same applies to SBO haha

Do you machine wash your SBO? I know I don't. Just under running water maybe.

By the way, I am using the J-series.

J-series oso got mould  I thought should be easy just to wipe it with a damn cloth over the ballistic nylon

My mildew and mold problems are still not solved. I have to hide my Domke bags in the storeroom because my wife complains that they stink like old shoes. She wants me to change all my bags to other brand BUT I love my Domkes. I even met Jim Domke at a photojournalism conference in Missouri, and sang praises on how great his bags are.

I bought all 3 of them during my uni days in New York. They are sentimental to me.

Yes... all J-series as mentioned in Thread #5.

Just got my F-2 ballistic nylon and lovin it!!!
Replaced the bottom hard cushion with a softer and more flexible one.
It feels great!

Looking for a F-3 to add!!

DOMKE rocks!!!

Have your tried a Berlingham? There are the best, never need to wash, never gets moldy, lifetime warranty including the contents.

Are you sure a Burlingham don't get moldy? A student of mine using such bags is complaining about mold and mildew also.
