I like F8 because its auspicious...HUAT AH!:bsmilie:

this seriously depends on the situation, there is no favourite aperture however i find that indoor i will use f/2.8 or faster and outdoor i will use f/8 thereabouts...

Hi, My favourite aperture is my optimum aperture for a given lens. I have to stop down to find
the optimum aperture for the lens. Each lens has its own optimum aperture to give you the best IQ.

Can, small group 1 straight line with each postioned according to height level to compromise the focus distance to left and right of group or all stand beyond infinite focus distance. Later can crop :bsmilie:.

Guess why most people voted F2.8 because their zoom lens widest is F2.8 like the tamron 17-50mm F2.8
Lolz...

Mine is f2.8 because I dont have a choice...its fixed at 2.8 or else it cannot take photos...LOL!!!!! My tamron 17-50 is spoiled.

Funny to say I just discover this Tech Talk section and this thread is so.....o long drawn. I only read 5 posts and what I'm about to say may be history and may have already been mentioned.

I do not understand the OP intention how does a favourite aperture will improve your photography. His favourite being f1.8 or f2. Photography certainly is more than just f stop. Otherwise, it ill be too boring to see bokeh all over.

I think what's important is to have the subject sharp when it needs to be sharp and the smallest aperture will never give you the sharpest. Not f22 or f32 due to diffraction. You can read all about it in google.

The newer lens sweet spot (meaning the sharpest) is merely about 2 to 3 stops from the widest aperture. I do not know why. My GH-1 sweet spot is f7.1. So when light permits and I want the sharpest, this is the f stop I use. My LX3 sweet spot is f4. You can easily do a test yourself to verify the sweet spot. Should I want to use something smaller like f11,f16 or f22, it will be for slow action such as waterfall, streak lights or micro works to increase DOF. Landscape would be back to f7.1.

So I think knowing what is your lens sweet spot is more useful than what the general public is using.

Slightly off topic to the OP but I hope it helps to better understand aperture.

Dude... Not everyone shoots at f2.8 with f2.8 lens... :bsmilie:

I agree with you. In fact most event I shoot using a f2.8 lens but used a 6.7 - 8.0 range (even more so when doing group shots of guests)

Favorite f/stop?

f/1.4 for hand held shots in dim light
f/8 for product shots
f/11 for shots with f/11 mirror lens
f/256 for shots with pinhole camera
