What is your favourite aperture to take photographs at?

I adjust different F-stops for different kind of shots.

most of my lens is 2.8, so will be 2 stops lower (5.6 and 8)
My sweet spot is 8!

There is no favourite aperture. It all depends on your setting and what kind of photo you expect. I don't wanna fix to using this aperture for most shots which makes all your shots look dull. Be creative and explore

suddenly i remembered a friend of mine who likes to use the biggest possible aperture... his portraits are nice but when i saw his other shots beside portraits on full screen then i find it funny...

e.g. 1: Event Coverage: every photo got shallow DOF (albeit his lens producing nice bokeh)... subject very clear but no idea of what the event is about...

e.g. 2: Car shots: focused on windscreen with f/3.5 and then found only windscreen is sharp, all others blur, he stopped down to f/4 and said that's better... but i see beside the windscreen is sharp, only side mirror get sharper... front lights, logo, bumper still blur...

e.g. 3: Landscape: he said he stopped down considerable amount to f/5.6... but i see shallow DOF landscape photos a little bit weird...

on screen review of his photos i would say his "favorite" aperture being f/2.8 - f/4... but really good to have a "favorite" aperture? I would say no...

I find that I only shoot at 3 apertures.
1-Max aperture
2-f5.6 when I need a little more DOF
3-f8 when I need huge DOF.

F4.0, I do not like the background too vague.

if u don't know what u are doing, then f5.6 or f8 is a safe aperture.

anything more than f8, diffraction sets in.

and lens are not really meant to be shot at its biggest aperture.

sweetspot as mentioned is 2 stops down.

As am more on landscape and it requires alot of in depth, normally I will go with f22.

Closest aperture I would vote is f16...

Hi, Stopping down is shifting focus, slow, so I use AF which is fast for fast-moving subjects.
