What is the must place to visit in Melbourne?

Many have been said of the Great Ocean Road, Grampians, Phillip Island etc.. Regional Victoria is nice, but maybe you can consider spending more time/days in the city 'cos the city itself has many to offer. It's autumn now in Melbourne so the leaves at the gardens are beautiful in colour. You may want to visit the Rialto Towers Observation Deck to have a nice view of the city too. Enjoy the weather, the food, the architecture, cafes etc.

Hi! Went Melbourne before and I'll suggest this itinerary. Drive on your own along the great ocean road and slowly take in the sights. Try not to follow day tour as it'll skim through the main attractions only. Do go to the lighthouse at the Cape Ottway. Its very nice.. super windy but super nice... Its so windy that your specs can be blown off!
If you do rent a car, I'll suggest you get a pretty sturdy car (not the cheepo small ones).. a proper sturdy one will do good (we rented a cheepo one from Hertz.. but along the way got some problem.. and managed to change for a BIG AND GOOD one for free... at Geelong)
Anyway... take your time... and you can take a large loop from the Great Ocean Road to Grampians. Many sights of the Grampians along the way (I like the Silver Falls and of course the sights atop Grampians). You can slowly loop your way down from Ballarat - to hit Melbourne city. This whole trip can take say 3 or 4 days.
Along the way there are petrol kiosk.. not to worry. :bsmilie:
