What is simplest software to use? m2ts to avi

Looking for info on the easiest way to convert my videos (Canon HF100) to avi. Appreciate help on the software to get.

I did Google and found some software but always hang my notebook, not sure if I did it wrongly or not? super newbie here.

oh forgot one important thing, I am using Windows XP.

Maybe your notebook does not have enough juice to edit AVCHD.

I am thinking that is possible too! hmmm... an excuse to get another notebook.

But what software do you guys use, easy and quick to convert, hope not too expensive one.

Yes it does Richard. M2t confirm and from what I have just read from another forum, m2ts is also supported.

would hope that you may have some ans to my questions.
is there a loss in quality after you convert avchd to avi?
also can my pc spec handle the conversion? (P4 3Ghz 1gig ram internal video card)
after converting to avi, can it be easily editing on premeire pro, would me pc hang? my pc works fine editing Standard definition from my mini dv cam.

Just got my a new notebook with more juice. When I tried to open the folder where my m2ts files are located the program cannot detect them. Am thinking this program not for m2ts? maybe?

I tried SUPER but can't follow the steps from the support Forum too difficult, now using Trial version of Sony Vegas Pro 8.

Damn it is also difficult and software not cheap either, sheeez!

Next time cannot buy latest Digicam before there is easily available programs to convert video.

Anyone tried VoltaicHD? It reads m2ts files... I download the demo version can convert <50Mb files only for demo version. Software not too expensive and converts .m2ts to .wmv or .avi

Anybody using this software? appreciate advise if good to get for conversion only, want a simple software to convert from m2ts, don't have time, patience or skill to edit anyway.

avi is just a container. what were the settings you used to encode?

if you want something simple, try the Sony Vegas with free 30 days demo.
