photography is an extension of urself, the way u look @ things. it could b ur own sub-consciousness, something inbuilt.
cameras r but a means of expressing urself. it is only but a medium.
in the process of expressing oneself artistically, the choice of medium do play a part in the final delivery/result.
in the digital age, photo enhancing/editing software r also part of ur medium.

IMO, nowadays, (i'm talking about scapes photography/UWA/environmental compositions), many do not pay enough attention to getting basics right. stuff like horizon levelling, distortion control, horizontal/vertical perspective control, space and element allocation, left-right frame limit, overall balance of tones and composition etc. while they have interesting main subjects, all these basics done if wrong can severely upset an otherwise impressive image.
not like i'm very good myself, but this is what i hope to see from others, and continually expect of myself. i'd rather first see "correct" and not necessarily "wow" pictures, than an attractive scene spoilt by the above-mentioned mistakes which could have been otherwise controlled on-scene or in post.

A favourite quote of mine about photography: "We photograph things in order to drive them out of our minds."
Photography is a teacher to me. It has imparted patience, (I'd like to think) maturity and an appreciation of the smaller things in life. It is also an excuse to be at the beach looking at the dying light, or to be looking out at the city in the middle of the night.

For me it'll be "we photograph things to sooth the obsession we have with wanting to be with them. Like how you cure an ear worm by listening to the same song over and over. And over. At least 300 times."

photography to me... it's a red-hot passion to take the images of life as it goes by. though i can't bring them along with me when i die, i believe that the memories will stay locked in my brain as i'm cremated, with my memories scattered across the ocean afterwards.
oh. and.... how do i view my works and that of others? i use a 13" notebook computer LCD monitor. calibrated of course.
