wah... spoken like a real taxi driver... hahhaa:)

actually, when the progress package was announced, it was already a tell-tale sign that price will increase.....
Give u right hand; take back (and more) left hand.... :)

I took the opportunity to ask a person from the UK today. Just for info - you're free to interpret whatever you want out of it.

The information may or may not be complete.

In London, take the London black cab driver as the means of comparison. The closest thing to a London black cab driver here is probably the Mercedes cab driver. Drivers of other variations such as minicabs, typically earn less. London cabs are a joy to ride on, if you can afford it. The drivers are typically very polite, learned and hold a very decent conversation.

Here's what's interesting:
  1. The London black cab driver owns his own cab.
  2. It is his own business. He is free to drive whenever he wishes.
  3. Because it is his own business, he does not have certain benefits e.g. he has to pay for his own private medical insurance.
  4. To qualify as a black cab driver, an applicant typically takes 3 years to study the various routes in London and pass the test. A person learning the routes full-time may take 6 months to a year.
  5. Depending on how many hours he works, a London black cab driver can expect to earn about 2000 pounds a week, excluding tips.
Yes. 2000 pounds. A week. Excluding tips. London is expensive, but even so, 2000 pounds a week is extremely good money.
  6. Income tax starts from 25%. It is generally assumed that the London black cab driver underdeclares his income.
Again, just for info - you're free to interpret whatever you want out of it.

I like the system of the London Black Cab...perhaps you should also find out what the customer has to pay - after all it seems like thats the main bone of contention here, and the cabby itself is the side show.

Singapore cab fare as compared to cities like japan, london & nyc is really cheap cheap cheap. That's why till today I refuse to buy a car.

After GE meh.......Every 1cent given to u, they will take back 10X by other means

Boycott taxi, boycott all the transportation, boycott water and electricity, boycott everything... Luckly government haven't decide to charge on breathing :bsmilie:

Stop comparing places with Higher Pay.

During peak hour:

Taxi on call - $4.00
Peak hour charges - $2.00
Meter start at - $2.50

That mean that, once you board the taxi it already cost you $8.50 .....

So therefore conclusion, if you late for work in the morning, better take MC ah... At least medical charges still can claim ah... hahaha...

;p ;p

Taxi on call - $4.00
Peak hour charges - $2.00
Meter start at - $2.50
CBD - $1

Get up cab = $9.50

You know how much they earn? You know how much macdonalds pay there?

Where did car come in?
You wanna talk about cars? Compare? The price I paid for my can buy 5 the same car in any of the 3 countries. If they can buy cars, still need to rely on public transport? Still need to be at the mercy of hikes? What's the point of comparing when everyone take everything so apathetically, making non-valid, non-basis comparisons in totally different scenarios?

They So K N N until I stomach ache now. Add 100K cab driver also like that.
The timing that we wanted them, they are not there.
All see marnee only. Let them get back their own fruit.

I AM BOYCOTTING CABS NOW!

Japan, UK, Australia and the rest of the other places that is quoted is not my home. My home is Singapore and I get paid in Singapore dollars.

It is going to come out from my wallet and it is getting expensive to use the taxi service.

no more cabs for me... unless its off peak hours
sigh no more luxury of getting a cab for a short ride home during peak.. :(

funny, everyone bitches about how things increase, how come no one think how to increase income to match his/her expectations.

If i want a X standard of living, want to ride in a cab, think how you can increase your income to afford it, rather than be so negative than think everything is getting expensive.

if your current employment/unemployment/selfempolyment cannot afford your lifestyle, maybe its high time you guys do something for yourself, find better paying jobs or opportunities. I really feel that most of us are just too comfortable, just being negative will not solve the issue, think positively, do something for yourself.

Better still lower your expectations and be happy without cabrides or cars. Ride a bicycle like someone say. Live simpler and be content.

life too short to get so fustrated, rethink

I guessed with or without hike, we all are thinking ways of getting more income. Thus, since its always there... Shall continue to complain against the hike!!! :sticktong

But then if you compare buying and owning a car with Japan, London and NYC, Singapore is a bit more expensive so comparison on taxi to taxi and even salary does not paint a complete picture.
