what got you into photography ?

was in the photography club in poly back in the SLR era. dropped due to high cost since i'm only a student and cant afford to own a body. have been a hobby using PNS. but my trip last year to melbourne during whale watching, thats when i realised my 10x optional zoom PNS just cant capture these magnificent creatures! i later decide to pick up D90 and reapplying some of my SLR knowlegde, swearing to return to visit these magnificent whales again.

Some how your situation is quite similar to mine.

I started serious photography with a SLR (a bit rusty with the skills already), it has since been hibernating in a dry box (well, I'm planning a cabinet soon), since then I've survived on PnS. Until recently that is, when I was shooting my boy's 4x100m relay during his sports day... Digital zoom across that field was super horrid! That was when I've decided that it's time to go DSLR... I have thought about selling my F70 SLR, but recently I've decided that it maybe wiser to keep it - if one day I'd go back to film photography and explore what only FF DSLR can do these days... :bsmilie:

For me it started as I was looking at some of the pictures taken by my friend and slowly I learnt to appreciate and differentiate good and bad photos.

However, it's the purchase of my new iMac which spurred me to go into photography as it's a pure enjoyment to look at your photos on a 27" screen!

Ok I am into photography because I take like to preserve memories,that's all. I like beautiful memories instead of normal snapshots so I got a dslr to have more control over what I want to photograph

Market still so bad for IT/EEE graduates huh? Was an EEE graduate as well, not into other lines.

other people are willing to work harder and for much less as well as no NS commitments like ICT and IPPT/RT, not easy to compete.

that shows you DO understand the concept of the f-numbers in relation to aperture size...
Take it one step at a time. You'll get the basics in no time!

got my canon ixus 870...then my friend lend me his dslr..then i got myself a 400D ....

never read too much books...but like my friend always say..to learn, just shoot..the more u shoot, the more u understand and the faster u will know what are all the ppl writing here....
to know wat the lens is all about, go try it out rather than asking and asking...

if u really really want to learn more abt focusing, aperture etc...one of the fastest way is to just go experience it yourself..u will nv know what the book is telling u without experiencing...

Hang in there... once you get past the understanding of exposure theory, everything else will seem much easier. It's like learning to use the clutch in manual cars... once you get the hang of half-clutch, everything else is more fun!

Was so frustrated by blur pictures from pns and camera phone . 5yrs back , pns was something I cannot take with . My pns is a 5mp Sony pns which with today's technology of camera phones , can easily own the old pns . Another point was because the bokeh effect I saw from albums was so facinating and I tried doing that on my pns which turned out like you can never imagine - still the same blur picture . The deciding point for a dslr is whn I saw an increasing sight of dslr (which called big cameras) . My quest to then take up a dslr and start it . It's not long , till it became a hobby , till today .

First started when I went studying in Melbourne many many years ago. Wanted to preserve the memories of day-to-day life and take better photos on the excursions/roadtrips.

Realised the quality of the P&S camera can only take me that far... so thought getting a "professional" (film) SLR will help improve the photos. I was wrong! Took me at least 6 months of shooting before the photos turned out comparable to what the little P&S camera was producing. Was tough coming to grips with the functions n controls especially when using film you can't see how each little tweak affected the outcome.

stopped for a good 5 years & now just getting back into it again. Why? well, using photography as an outlet for creativity on the weekends n getting away from the stress at work

During year 1 in nafa, one of our modules was photography, so we were kinda made to learn a few theories, develop and print film in the dark room. It was really cool especially the printing part. Then in year 2 there was another module that involved photography. It was the first time i held a DSLR, it as a Canon 10D. I like photography because of what that camera did for me. So from there in year 3 i had my attachment in a studio, although my course isn't photography. It was multimedia, but the boss knew i could handle a camera. He put a Canon D60, 24 - 70L, 580ex and a vest that said official photographer onto me. His words were "look for the prettier girls and take their photos." It was a studio dealing in graduation ceremonies. And thats how i started, but it wasn't long before i went over to nikon. They had a D100 then and it just felt better... Thats when i got myself a D70, and now, years later an S5. Next will probably be FF...

I was drinking and smoking too much so I figured that if I didn't have a hobby I'd die young. So I took up photography as a diversion from my vices.

Now I cut down on booze and smoking but my fear of dying young is still there............ from starvation because I spent all my money on lens, accessories, etc. No difference, yeah?

Was never really into pictures until a buddy of mine showed up one day with a 500D and 50mm 1.8. Was absolutely blown away by the pictures despite it being an entry level setup and very affordable. Suddenly it clicked that maybe I could one day take pics like in the magazines and adverts and the passion started. It also helps that I travel as part of my work, 3-4 times a month, all over the world, which made the decision to buy a dslr much easier. Main interests are travel, street, and HDR photography

After shooting with a PnS film camera... I realised that using a SLR would give me a better edge and I then loaned film SLRs like Nikon F60 to learn. But it was not until I had access to a DSLR like the D100, did I have the chance to learn most of the knowledge on photography.

Once hooked, I went on to buy a D200 and the ball went rolling ever since.

I was using a film PnS for taking pictures of my kids ions away. And when digital PnS became affordable I got a Canon A40. For shooting kids it's ok but bad for shooting my fishes. Then got a Fuji prosumer, better, but still not good enough for my fishes. Finally got a 2nd hand 20D.
Now it's 7D, kids all grown up liao, but still shooting my fishes...........:sweatsm:
