what film

you did editing?

these look way more contrasty than whatever i got out of scan with neopan 400cn. :P

Erm, no editing actually, these are the better looking ones. The others from the rolls of C41 B&W that I took usually turn out really washed out.

Based on my experience before I had a scanner at home, the lab scans for C41 B&W is just plain horrible, I have no idea why, could be because of the lab's default scan settings? Self scanning at home is still the best. Might wanna get a scanner at home & try it.

C41 B&W generally have this very "digital" look, very clean, very sharp, extreme fine grain which is the reason why I gave up on them, they just dont give off that "feel" of the true art of B&W photography.

Some here on Ilford XP2, another C41 film:

The C41 films usually look like those taken with a DSLR then converted to B&W in Photoshop by digital users. Very high in detail but at the same time, very gray scale as you can see from you own experience.

Am more of a true black, true white person, I prefer to sacrifice details for higher contrast. Thats my personal preference anyway. Some people do prefer that grayscale B&W to what I prefer.

This is pure B&W, self processed, self bulk loaded, self scanned:

maybe it's the lighting then. most of mine were shot in rather "flat" settings, so perhaps the characteristic stood out way more in such a situation.

i do not know about lab scan versus home scan, still have no scanner, don't think i shoot enough film to justify buying one. maybe when i win 4d. :)

yes, i know what you mean about "digital" look. i actually personally like tri-x the most. :)

Some samples of C41 B&W, KodakBW400CN

My conclusion on this film would be its very sharp, very fine grain. Works very well with flash.

Low on contrast when compared to pure B&W films

As expected from top40, truly beautiful shots.

bro,

i am just asking, because he said that they were low contrast, yet whatever he posted is high contrast. if you haven't noticed.

i myself have a few neopan 400cn film shots, mainly of cats. :)

these have been manipulated with levels somewhat in photoshop, if you have seen the output from the scans i got, you will understand what i mean...

i'm merely interested as to whether these were edited for personal interest, is that anything wrong??? :dunno:

i think this was not edited, just desaturated, because whatever scans i got back had a bluish/cyan cast to it:

hope you get what i mean.

I fully understand.. sharing is what important the most here.
Doesn't matter what you shoot. We are here to share and make friends. :)

Just post your photo. People can see for them-self.
Bro, you develop your own b&w film?

i will try next time.. :)

currently, when in london, i only have a small bright room with half-past-six blinds to myself.. don't think it is a good time to learn.

next time when i am more permanently based i will try it for sure! seems like a fun thing to do. :) right now, just send to lab to develop...

If you do your own develop & scanning.. You have more control for your b&w picture bro.
Developing play a key roll to your pictures too. :) Personally, what I see your film pictures.
I have far worst than yours.. Hope you could take more film pictures. Good or bad doesn't matter.

You can actually get a scanner for a rather decent price actually. Dont have to follow the poison masters here to get the Epson V700.

Am using the Canon 8800F, about $270-$290, very affordable.

Actually I prefer Ilford Delta really but TriX is one bloody versatile film. You can pull it to asa 100/200 or push it to asa 800/1600, still turns out great! I've just bought a bulk roll of TriX 400 from Ruby, gonna roll it before I head off the the UK, could really do with a versatile film like that when am travelling, too bright, pull back, too dark, push the film.

Its a good film for people new into B&W film shooting. Very forgiving film if you screw up your processing of the film, the pictures still turn out.

Anyone here tried Neopan? Not the C41 but the Neopan 400 & Neopan 1600? I have yet to try it but based on some opinions, I heard it is a high detail film like AGFA APX which I hate....

Also, what I heard about Neopan is that pushing & pulling will result in nice contrast shots but if shot at desiginated asa, its rather flat, grayscale just like AGFA APX?

I tried 2 rolls of AGFA APX so far, didnt like the feel it gave off, not to mention, expensive film as well @#$%

Try one or two rolls first, you might now end up liking it, the shots I posted here are the "better" ones, the cannot make it ones are really washed out.

Try using high contrast color filters to force contrast in. Green or red would be a good to try out. But do bear in mind that you lose 2 stops when green & red filters.

Neopan1600 is good stuff. I try to push TriX few rolls all look like S**t. hai..
But, all I use is expired film.. Ha ha. Cheapo me...

i'm jealous!

Just hop down to Ruby to get some!

I got bulk rolls of Ilford Delta 100 & Kodak TriX 400.

You can get those cheap old school bulk loaders off ebay, shouldnt be more than $50 including shipping.

Or you can get the spanking new AP bulk loaders from Ruby, about $80++? Comes with 10 reload-able canisters.

Am not a big fan of the reload-able canisters, I use the standard used canisters. Can get them at labs for free, coz they throw them away anyway
