hmm...
i feel that the coral doesn't stand out enough. merges into the background on the right side.

it's like half silhouette and half not. :dunno:

composition.
right side too dark
too much dead space on right which doesn't do much good for the pic
maybe if it was lit up it would look better, tt said, there's not much coral on the right so even if it was lit up, it would still have been lots of dead space.

your aim might have been to place the sunburst into the thirds rule but the main focus is in the red coral at the bottom.

also, i feel that it is not wide enough. the pic gives me a very cramped up feeling. i dunno... do you feel the same way? maybe you should take into consideration that when you take this pic, you want the viewer to get a feel of the view you had when u where there at that moment in time. It's about capturing the moment or the memories when u take a pic right?

just my 2 cents worth...... :)

Fish??? :dunno:

crop pic into portrait format. right side doesn't add to the pic (a bit too dark too). can crop away, leaving the leftmost 45%

mmmm..... for me.... i think having fishes in the current pic would make things even more cramped up and distracting from what the photographer actually wanted to potray.

well... ehh... h2o ....what did you really want to potray or make the viewer feel?

hi all,

thanks for ur comments....

uginz:
i agree that the right side is a bit dark, may be be better if i could light up that area....it would show some of the small fishes more prominently...

whyzzzzzz:
what r u referring to when u said not wide enuf?? is it not enuf blue water??

liquidforce:
there a few little ones on the bottom right.....big ones will probably require a bit of luck and patience.....

dtan:
i have tried ur suggestion and find that the left 45% would be too empty......

basically i was trying to capture the peaceful underwater scene with corals and a bit of fishes......i reckon it may be better if i move closer with my shoulder to the wall and try to capture the black coral (correct me if i am wrong in identifying) with sun light streaking thru.....which probably would mean the coral would fill up most of the space in the frame......

put a human form near the sunburst....of course we know what is the correct gender :)

The pic is too "empty" . The right side is just darkness and not much else.

Eric aka 'armchair critic' - always easier to critize in the comfort of an aircon office.

personally, i prefer if the corals weren't cut off halfway like that. meaning i would like to see the whole coral then some or a little blue water. maybe if you moved back 1 or 2 meters from the subject you will be able to place everything in the frame.

i love being an armchair critic too... feels good leh.!

Hi H2o..

i personally find that composition of frames like the one you took should be in the portrait position with the sun-burst at either of the top corner.

It doesn't give me a sense of "orientation" as what i would like to see in a U/W WA photo

If it were up to me, i'll orientate it to portrait with the sun on the top right whilst lighting up the sea fan.

Either that or i'll let compose it in such a way that the sun is at the back of the sea fan.

hope that helps..

keep shooting... you're getting better.

the dead space would be nice if you can add a poem or something like that.

if not the portrait verison would definatly look better. just crop half the photo should do the trick :D

what about a square format?
