West Shooterz anyone? (Pt-3)

talk about DB i quite sad.. last time I brought a 120L and placed it in my previous staying place, then when I move back, I decide to leave it behind...

then I brought those cheapo DB which have to use silica gel all the time to keep the humility low. finally i brought a 80L and it will be deliver tml.

Sky quite a stuff i got? I think there is still more to collect. :P

been going thru these 7 questions in my mind,

1) do I need 70-200?
2) if yes, 70-200 F4 IS or 70-200 F2.8 IS?
3) F4 enough for me? do I need larger aperture for more better bokeh?
4) F2.8 for a faster lens? but can I bear the weight of it?
5) will 70-200 neither too long or too short for me on 7D? eg. too long for portrait and too short for sport for sport and nature?
6) shd I just go for super tele zoom range like Canon 100-400 or sigma 150-500 to fulfill the nature or sport need? but of cuz it is a slower lens.
7) do I need any of above lens?

haha.... anyone wanna give me some advise? I used to buy buy buy without thinking in the past, nowaday, money is harder to get so I will buy with more caution.

before I edit my signature again, my tool are as below,

Canon 10-22mm F3.5-4.5 for Ultra wide angle for APS-C body,
Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 HSM for general use lens or standard lens for me,
Tamron 180mm F3.5 Macro for Macro shot,
Canon 50mm F1.4 for portrait.

if you guy having mentioned tools, what will u do?

cld try zooming-in on your shooting style and preference. Yup.. many ppl used to BBB, and ended up under-utilising their tools, and its such a waste of money, especially money is hard to come by for us working adult.

At the end of the day, do u really need those additional tools..?

Canon 135L
You don't need so much zoom in Singapore to use, its always cheaper to rent those bazookas
A 135L will give you the luxury of light weight, lightning fast focusing and, dreamy bokeh, on the 7D !

Here are a few lenses which you can get which I think serves a better general purpose all condition (day & night) needs

1) Canon 35mm F/1.4L
This works back to around 56mm which is perfect for a walk around. Its light and focuses blazing fast. With the right focus @ minimal focusing distance, OOF area is pleasing.

2) Canon 50 F/1.2 mkII L
If you're not changing to FF anytime soon, the 50mm F1.2 works well. It gives you the same perspective as the 85mm F1.2 mk2. Sweet melting moments for lovely contrast when you step up

3) Canon 70-200 F4 non - IS L
IMHO, if you're shooting just casually and nothing professional, there isn't a need for F2.8 and IS. Weight matters more when you're walking around, and having one less lens with you when you walk around is as good as not buying that lens at all. Shooting at the 100-200 range at F4 with adequate background distance, all nice and creamy oof area can be achieved. Weights minimal compared to IS F2.8 versions.

4) Canon 135mm F2L
Lightning fast focus, stunning subject isolation at F2. Mount this on the 7d you get an amazing +/- 200mmF2- works well for candids at events / weddings or even street shoots.

Lenses not to get, but shd be rented instead.

Canon 24-70
Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS

This 2 zooms are oversized for general shooting in Singapore. Streetshooting are very challenging at close proximity and crowded areas. A 35mm and 50mm does better.

Canon 24mm F1.4. Canon Tilt Shift lenses.

Restricted in usage due to Wide end and also minimal landscape opportunities.

I had the 35, 60, 65MPE, 85mk2, 135F2 before so I feel the lens most worth having and never disappointed- would be a 35mm and 135mm in the bag! With 7d's ISO, you're ready for speed and melting moments!

Alternatively you can consider the Carl Zeiss ZE range, 50mm F2 Makro Planar 100mm F2 Makro Planar 35mm F2 Distagon (not sure all this 3 are available on the Canon mount yet :P)

Thanks for the breakdown, Michael senior have 135L and he is loving it... maybe i ask him out 1 day and play with it.

70-200 non-IS good enough or shd spend a little more for IS version which many say it is a sharp lens.

Boost ISO for faster shutter speeds works better for me :p
