Sorry to being demoralize, will reporting to the police beforehand help? What happen if it doesn't help? We just pay? It the ranger territory more then the police I believe

Hey guys, back from Sungei Lembing, just a FYI from one of the hikers in my group, they went to Berlumut last week, and they now charge RM$150 per group. So do watch out for the ranger.

thanks bro for this information. We'll make sure that we report at the nearest police station, and the setting up of equiptment be done inside once we're thru.

Welcome to Malaysia guys, sad but true, not the proudest thing unfortunately.

This is how we do it most of the time at other national parks (not taman negara of course - too big the area, so we had to do some pre-arrangement, but this is all packaged by the tour agencies, so its very formalised). For mini official trips to other nature reserves, we normally do the following:

1) ask the van to stop a grop of 3 before the main enterance. This group (say Group A) will walk in
2) The other 2 groups will be inside the van. (Group B & C)
3) Group B will come down, and start walking in
4) Group C will follow shortly but in a different batch
5) Group A being left behind will catch up eventually with Group A
6) All gears are inside the bag, no tripods are to be seen on sight (tripod = $$$)
7) Hold plastic bags of food and junks - Make it look like a picnic
8) If engaged with the Rangers, a designated group of Lawyers (Group A) will talk their hearts out with the Ranger, requesting documentation, official letters to govern this fee. The rangers arguement will be we're here for commercial purpose, bla bla bla, our arguement will be, we're here to picnic, and we have been coming here for years!! hahahah, no new signs, no new documentation, nothing published in newspaper - Helps if you can argue with them in Bahasa Malaysia
9) Group B & C will move ahead, disregarding group A, '
10) Group A to catch up

Sounds a bit complicating, but thats how its normally done.

At least we had done what we shld, and willl use it to our advantage.

As what was mentioned by Neoro, it's always the same with other popular spots such as this. Anyway, we'll have a meet-up session, and discuss further on this on Fri.

yup.. need some hrs of nap nap.. do like what we did last year. We cld meet at 11pm onwards instead at the ECFC for super late supper. Then walk down to the jetty and hang-out there. I wld definitely bring my half tent along, and you guys cld chunk ur equiptment in. Some might want to do some funky and funny shoot or even Moon/Star Trail, or supper slow speed photography.
