Went Wandering in Western Australia

Which meant we totally lost track of time
Hours on the beach, rolling around,
Talking to each other in dreamy dulcet tones
Throwing shells at each other
Sorting them according to shape and size
Hoping to find that one unique shell

And had to make up lost time on the road
Though on a no-stop policy for the rest of the journey
God's rays were fortunately included on the exception list
I'll never tire of looking at them

Probably the worst part about being the chef de mission
Is gathering up the sleepyheads up for brekkie and then the road

With tousled bedhair we rushed for the morning feed
At Monkey Mia 15 minutes or so away
Growing impatient at the car in front in line
Indecisive about paying to get in (they finally did)

The entrance and ticketing lady sensed our urgency
As we asked our questions really fast,
And she replied in the same speed, cue hillarity
Stuffing our car in the first spot available, we hobbled-ran
in half-slipped on shoes, trailing sleeves of hoodies and sweaters
To the line already forming at the shore

This here is Puck

In the cold morning air, the water was surprisingly warm
Witness to a parade of rolled up pant legs
Discarded footwear lined the beach

I hastily (and gingerly) switched to a telephoto
Ill-advised; over shallow seawater

To capture the unique identifying marks of each dolphin
Fresh and old, scars of battles
Dolphins at Shark Bay

Lacking binocular vision
Was rather odd to see her almost flounder
Swimming to and fro on the side
In knee-deep waters
The plastered smile on her face
Projects to myself a faithful happy puppy

enjoyed the pictures so far :)

was just thinking that a b/w conversion on #70 could turn out nice dramatically.

and i notice you have a fascination for free verse LOL

Thanks kwanhan, thought that b&w might dilute the series
Trying (very hard not to diverge) to maintain a simple theme of processing
You're right, the ones with textured rocks look like they'd benefit from conversion
Will probably experiment when I finish with all the photos ... still a long way to go :bsmilie:
I ... don't think much when typing. Just let the fingers roll
Would like to believe my mind spews lines in some form of metering at least :embrass:

Mugshot of the greedy
Amusing the way they're distracted
By a separate guide, a separate pail of fish
Away from the shore, the day's action

Tucked in for warmth

It was an odd place to rest
After breakfast lethargy
Great for photos perhaps vanity

But along came a young couple
I reckon eighteen or nineteen
Distinctly Mediterranean look
The girl rushing to pose with the bird

So I stowed my camera myself away
And watched from a distance
Amusement to horror
As she picks up a branch to prod the poor creature into wakefulness!
Glee and mischief lit up her face
Spectators cried foul
The mighty bird disturbed

Ensued were neck twists
A display of massive wingspan
I imagine cracking of joints
To shake off the sleep
Right before takeoff
Away into the sky, circling

<92>

Had a number of people saunter by
Curious to what I was pointing my lens at
Hanging in the eaves of the volunteers' office
Obviously no one's been sweeping the corners, goody
This one's the female, the size of my palm
Couldn't get a clear shot of the male
as large as a fifty cent coin

While the family took to exploring the gift shop
The klaxon's blared, announcing the second feed

Shot through legs and hands
A solitary mottled fish breakfast

Made a mental Post-it on the stickyboard of my mind
When we drove up to Mokey Mia
For by the road I spotted
A tiny trail leading to turbines on a mound

On the return, we stopped by for a call
Have heard stories of loud whirring
Of a deep baritone, slow yet strong

But instead we discovered
New technology breeds silent behemoths
Moving languidly when catching pockets of breeze
In the almost still air

No fence around, even well-placed descriptive signboards
Explaining how it works, supply electricity to
Nearby Denham, far away from the power grid

There's something about their placement for
Harnessing optimum wind movement
Standing tall above the plains
Simply captures the imagination

Overlooking the sea it brings
Gusts of clouds and seed bags of rain

Bright sunshine that grabbed
Us by the scruff of the neck
Disappeared in a swell
Of nimbus, spread your wings and fly
Retreating shadows

Found this amusing, a patch of rain yonder
Framed between two turbines

<97>

CKC_2379.jpg

Just as quickly as it came, it went
As if it had never happened at all

<98>

CKC_2381.jpg

Clear shallow waters
Sparkling turqoise under the midday sun
Loved the layers, the bright barren compacted earth
Eroding into the lining of tallus
Then dark patches of seagrass
of which Shark Bay is known for
